315 BFG's & BW Fender Flares
Finally! I finally got some 315's BFG's to replace my 305's Pro Comp tires. Nothing was wrong with the Pro Comps. I gave them to my dad and I got the BFG's.
Anyway, I was wondering if the Bushwacker fender flares came with a double sticky back tape to prevent any dirt/dust from getting in-between the truck and the flares? When I bought mine, someone else installed them.
I took them off this weekend cause I was having a bit of a clearance problem with my 315's and I noticed that the guys that installed my flares, never cleaned the part of the truck the flare was going on. It was really dirty cause the truck was dirty when they were installed.
I took them all off and cleaned the truck and then put them back on. I was wondering if anyone knew if Bushwacker included something like a double sticky backed tape to prevent dirt and dust from getting between these things. Does anyone know?
BTW - my 315's were only rubbing on the front drivers side when I made hard left turns going down into a dip. I fixed the problem by trimming a bit of the fender flare, but it's still really close! If I made a hard left turn into a dip while going pretty fast, I bet the tire would hit. I just have to be careful I guess.

Mine didn't come with any double sided tape, only the "rubber" c-profile edging that goes on the edge of the flare, between it and the truck body. It won't do much to keep dust and dirt from collecting between them, because it's not a perfectly tight fit, especially on the rears around some of the contour lines.

Bushwaker does not use adheasive tape...only a little rubber "isolater". They will rub the paint off. This is the sole reason so many people like Xenon's, Warn, etc that use 3M double sided tape to seal the lip against the truck. You could go to the local auto paint supply store and buy some of the tape in 1/4" variety and try to retrofit. I am not sure if the lip on the edge of the BW flare will allow this...but it may be worth a shot.
Remember two things...wipe all surfaces with alcohol or a solvent that leaves NO residue before applying the tape. Also apply the tape 1/16" back (in) from the lip. This will allow some squish with out exposing the sticky sides to the elements allowing dirt to stick.

I kinda figured this. I just wanted to make sure. The paint is already starting to rub off too. Great....what to do, what to do?? Any ideas w/o buying a different make of fender flare?
My wheels make the BFG's stick out just a hair, so I really like the function of the fender flares.

I had the Bushwacker Extend-A-Fender. There is not enough edge to use 3M tape, I tried. The rubber edge was ok, but as stated above the fit is not sealed or that tight, just kinda sits against the fender.
I live close to the coast and driving close to the beach will sandblast a line and rub a line along the edge of the flare. This will happen anywhere eventually. They were on only couple of weeks and have line that needs buffing out already.
This is one of the reasons that I took them off.
Just my experience.
