3 micron fuel filter and FASS

I want to upgrade my fuel filter on my FASS. I see the 3 micron HF6604 filter from fleetguard will fit. But will this lower my fuel pressure, or lessen the pump life? I am assuming the lower the micron the more drag and less flow the filter provides. Also I could only find it through a fleetguard distributor for $76.58 kind of expensive but if it will lessen the chance of injector problems its worth it.

I do not know if dimensionally if the Fleetguard FF5320 - 2 micron filter Richard over at Glacier Diesel Power handles is the same as the HF6604 but it may be worth checking into as the price is much lower. Good luck!

I personaly run a 3 micron on my Dodge with no Fuel pressure issues. I know Rjohnson has had a 3 for a very long time....he is sticking 600+ to the ground with no FP issues.

The filters on our site are all micro glass and stratapore. These filters cost more, but are tops on quality. There are paper filters out there that are cheaper, and work....just up to you if you want to run them.

Just remember that the FASS filter lasts 60,000 (Can go even longer in some cases) miles unless you get some bad fuel or something! That is 4 times longer than a stock filter by my math......

The FF preceeding the number means Fuel Filter. The HF means Hydraulic Filter. I know many use HF filters, but it would seem it was not manufactured for that specific purpose. Also the biggest issue to check is whether the filter is "Absolute" filtration. Huge difference. Absolute indicates nothing over 3 microns is going through that filter. If not an Absolute then you can get some considerably larger particualtes through the filter and that could mean problems with the injectors.

Found a filter from Filter-Mart That matches up with both the fleetguard # and the cim-tek number that Fass has on their site as the proper size for replacement filters. But has anyone heard of Filter-Mart? I would rather go with a filter someone has used before, even if it cost more. But the fleetguard is a hydraulic filter, not to sure about that as a fuel filter, and the cim-tek 70213 is not showing up on any of their sites. So is anyone using a 3 micron with their fass and if so where are you getting it?
Or is a filter from filter mart (f7400-8k3b) ok to use?

I switched to the Fleetguard HF6604 in January on my FASS. Before with the 10 Micron filter that came with the FASS my FP was 18psi at idle and 15-17psi driving and cruising 70+. With the HF6604 it may by .5-1 psi lower at idle, but doen't appear to be any different driving.

The difference between the FF and HF is Burst pressure. The HF has a thicker case and resists punctures. The media used is the same from what FG has told us.

I've been running the Hf6604 and for some time now. I change it once a year and yes they are not cheap filters! Fuel pressure did not change at all going from 10 micron to 3 micron. Still is 15 psi idle, 13.5 foot to the floor with the 95 gph fass pump and tap at the cp3 inlet going to the isolator. Just to let you know my fass is plumbed to the stock canister with the 7 micron fs19800e in there. Why your thinking? Because I did have a noticable idle/warm-up issue last winter when I bypassed it. The stock canister also has a water sensor and fuel heater which I believe cummins thinks is required and my results in cold weather confirmed it. Just a heads up the ff5320 will only screw on the water seperator side of the fass, different threads , not a good idea
