04.5 motor blown

i had my truck floored the other day and it started to miss like crazy so i backed off and it cleared up. i hammered it again and at 3000 rpms it started to miss again. i parked it for the night and when i started it there was so much white smoke that the neighbors called the fire dept (not really). my mechanic thought it was the injectors so he replaced all six. it never cleared it up. a guy from cummins looked at it and reflashed the computer. everything electronic has checked out so now he thinks it is mechanical.... . he is doing a compresion test today and should know tomorrow if the motor is edited by admin... could anyone look at my mods and tell me if these could be the culprit. i run a hot ppe on full and the juice with atitude on 2-3. the juice on 5 has way to much timing. you can here it pinging. i almost wish i had never modded it but now i'm in nads deep so i might have to get a new engine. i almost think there was something wrong with my motor from the factory because my truck is not bombed that much and i don't really abuse it. i think dodge got my cummins from the ford plant...

Noooo, A PPE HOT on full with a Juice with Attitude stack ... every day no doubt....Must have been a faulty engine. I go with dropped valve, melted piston(s)....Head gasket should be ok as the super B wouldn't have gotten you over 48psi....but a potential for 30 degrees of timing advance might have done it. Stacking agressive downloader which advances timing all the way with another uncontrolled timing advancer is stupid...I should know. Engines are easily had for $6000 to $8000 or you can tear off the head and start paying to get an abused engine back to a working used engine. If your pistons are ok...only way to know is to compression test but sometimes the top rings are cracked and that might not fully show...since it just hopefully happened. Might need to remove pistons to accurately check it out... Fun to do if you have a spare engine...not so fun if its your daily drive. ks

my dad has a stock 2005 that had the motor replaced at 4500 miles same situation as yours. Mine has 9000 miles on it and its at the dealer getting all the injectors changed to start with.

"my truck is not bombed that much and i don't really abuse it"

Famous last words. HOT PPE on full and more timing/duration certainly can hit 1700* with that stack, probably out of wack drive pressure, not sure your definition of "not bombed much", but I doubt the engine was nuked from the factory.

I know the pain of pushing it a little too hard at the wrong time .

I am babying mine until I have the 8-10k needed to fix it right.

Good luck.

Almost every time I read about a serious problem the truck has a "hot" programmer and a "hot" box that both do timing.... Coincidence??? Probably not.

Not like the old gasser days when you could set your timing where and when you wanted it, as long as you had the knowledge and mechanical aptitude to do it... now, anyone with the $$$ can do things to their engine that would've made us soil ourselves!

Order of importance:

1: get a clue
2: get a new mechanic who doesn't just throw parts at a problem in hopes it
will fix a problem
3: your mods are the cause of your problems, in conjunction with lack of
component in above item #1

Ok now lets try to help a guy out since we all seem so smart!!!

I personal wouldn't run the two things together, from most of the information I know, the Edge Juice doesn't like to be stacked with to many programmers. It seem that stacked with the programmers it is sending the timing thru the roof. And some clame that they don't even notice high EGT's but they have melted pistons.

What are you thinking of doing with the motor? Do you know what is all wrong with it yet?

The piston crowns can be damaged w/o showing abusive EGTs on a pyro gauge.

I would have had the head off of that thing a long time ago.
You might also want to just use a an infrared temp scanner to take a shot at finding a cold cylinder.

I feel for you but we all get a little greedy with fuel and end up with unintended consequences.
