Use Additives yet in your 6.7L???
Hi everyone,
I searched the forums for this but could not find anything definite and I am kind of new to diesels and even additives. I never ever used them in my gassers.
Has any one started to use any Fuel or Oil additives in the new 6.7’s yet? I have heard a rumor NOT to use them in the new 6.7 because of the emission doodads and filters and I think I read something in the owner’s manual on it but I can’t seem to find it now. Is this true? I have some 5.9L friends that use them and some of my eastern WA accounts sell alot to the diesel guys over there, but no info on the 6.7's yet.
If any of you are using them can you recommend any, please? I have access to Redline and Lucas, at work but I am willing to shop other places as well for other brands. There are others we have but I do not think I would use them. I’m also going to ask my dealer as well although they’re not so knowledgeable on the 6.7L’s yet
If any of you are using, what benefit are you seeing and have you had any problems that the additives may have caused?
I only have about 2700 miles on the truck so far, mostly city driving, If It is a good idea for additives, should I wait for more mileage, if so how much?
Just wondering what you all are doing…
Thanks

I see no reason why some thing like Lucas would hurt any thing as it is 2007 ULSD compliant. If I was you I would not use any thing like 2 cycle oil as it my screw up the DPF, EGR and other smog related parts on the engine.
erics76,
As for the what owners manual has to say, to not to use anything, but both Dodge and Cummins sell a diesel fuel additive. So why is it ok to use what they sell for big $$ and not what you want to use?

I have been using Power Up for about 2 months now. I haven't noticed any problems yet. I have not been keeping track of the milage so I don't know if it has improved anything yet.
I was told that ULSD has less lubricants in it so an additive might be a good idea. You hear so many different points of view that I say try one for yourself and see how it goes.

2007 6.7L 2500 MEGA CAB

I used PS & Howes (Cummins Approved) for the first 30k + and was told by tech that using additives in the 6.7l will cause more frequent regens, gum up the EGR valve and increase the "ash" level in the DPF. Well, the EGR valve/pipe did clog up and had to be cleaned. As far as the ash in the DPF, I don't know, but ash in the DPF is different from soot. It is the ash that they eventually have to clean out of the DPF or replace the DPF when full.
