Unplugged EGR and got somthing extra???

Ok I have a 08 6.7 and unplugged my EGR i figured its been proven enough so id do it.

Well it lowered my EGT's Across the board wich was nice since the 6.7 runs so hot, havent really noticed the milage yet but its only been a week. What i have noticed is that when i turn the truck off i can hear the turbo spinning for a few secs.. im sure it is no big deal i had a 2004 SRT4 and could hear it spin down through the exhaust (3" no cats) on that car. Has anyone else had this after unplugging the EGR or is it normal and i just never noticed it before?

Thanks,

With the DPF delete it is just a bit more audible. You just couldn't hear it with 3 filters and a muffler on it prior. Perfectly normal.

I got something extra. An oil leak.

The best I can describe it is imagine a 2 inch high curb (what I have at the front of my garage). Now imagine the if the front wheels were touching the curb. I have two drips that are about 2 inches in front of the edge of the curb, center on the truck, about 4 inches apart. The drips are about the size of a dime each.

I've crawled under the truck, and so has a friend of mine that drives rigs for UPS. He has a lot of experience with trucks, I don't. We can't find the source. The entire bottom of the engine area around that location is clean and dry.

Any ideas?

When I did my deletes I also put the blockoff plates inbetween the EGR and intake manifold. What I found recently when I went to pull the EGr off again was that it had accumulated a bunch of water inside which was mixing with the soot and looked just like black oil but had the consistancy of water. This crap dripped all over everything under it as I pulled the EGR. It's possible that you have a bad gasket and it is leaking some of this.
I pulled the plates all out and just have the EGR simply unplugged now and when I put new gaskets under the EGR there was 0 water or moisture accumulation.....

well i decided to hook mine back up till i properly remove the valves and maybe even wait for the "fooler to come out.

Heres my reasons,,, no more smoke at all even with the edge on 5

in all my car expirence (prior owner of a 400hp SRT4 and a 732hp 04 cobra) running a boosted vechile lean is a very very bad thing! lower egts and no smoke out of a diesel means not as much fuel. not enough fuel and boost means boom (unless im missing somthing on this diesel thing).

Im guessing that since the intake tempeture is lowered so much 60 to 100 degrees depending on the temperature the engine is expecting the mapping for say 118 degrees and the motor is getting 38 degrees i.e. creating a very lean condition. Also it obviousy advances the timeing witch is very iffy without adding a bunch of fuel... again unless im missing somthing.

I will say i loved the lower egts as far as being easier on the motor, and i liked seeing some real intake air temps but the milage was not worth it,,, it was actually worse on the highway. i loved so much knowing that exhaust is not being recirculated into my motor,,, but i like my diesel to smoke like its supposed to.. it puts me at ease knowing im wasting fuel,,,, black smoke=happy motor....

Smoke isn't necessarily a good sign. You are right about wasted fuel though.

What I'm seeing is most definately oil. Still can't find the source. I'm tempted to plug the EGR back in, let the codes clear, then take it to the dealer to inspect.

Don't worry about running a diesel too lean - they run hot on fuel.
