Egr unplugged

I unplugged the egr today and went for a ride, couldn't tell any difference as far as engine running of course I got a CEL. I than plugged the erg back in and drove about 10 miles and the cel remains on. Is it time/miles or is it key cycles that will clear the code after the egr is plugged back in. I've got a 60 mile round trip tomorow with several stops I'll see what happens than.
Why do I want to know how long it takes to clear, just so I don't take it to the dealer with the light on, I hate playing dumb.
So whats been your experence ?

Another ? when running empty @ 70-80 mph does the egr close up because no real load is being placed on the engine , like in town driving ?

Usually takes three key cycles to clear it. If not, just pull up at an Autozone or other parts house and have them clear it.

Probably wont see any power difference, but should see an mpg gain.

egr

Blake: Thanks for the responce. I didn't think there would be any power gain just looking for the mpg and cleaner internal engine. I have a 5k mile round trip coming up in a few week and wanted to check this out before I got on the road.

That would be Blake-code for the infamous smoke switch.
