Two Quick Battery Questions
Two Quick Battery Questions
1. The batteries (originals) are Mopar 750 amps and have two vent caps on each one. They appear to be removable. However, there is a warning printed on the battery which states, "Maintenance free...do not open or pry vents." A friend, who has some experience as a mechanic claims that it's OK to open these vent caps in order to add water, if necessary. He says the reason for the warning is the manufacturer would rather you buy a new battery rather than maintain the old one. I would like to follow through but I'm sure there's a reason for the printed warning.
2. Since this is my first vehicle with two batteries I would also like to ask if there is any special procedure needed when removing the cables other than the obvious safety reasons. I'm concerned with causing possible harm to the ECM or other electronics if a certain procedure isn't followed.
Thanks in advance....

No special procedure for removing. Having dual batteries is nice cause you can remove one at a time and not loose any memory store on your truck, radio presets etc.
Removing them both would have the same effect as removing a single battery from a gasser.
Im not sure about the serviceability, My passenger side went bad bout six months ago and both were replaced with Duralast Golds.

Well, I went ahead and removed the vent caps from both batteries and guess what? They didn't self destruct (wonder what that warning message was all about?). This is the first time electrolyte level has been checked in almost 3 years and I found all cells to have adequate levels. Thanks for your advice...Ed
