fuel mileage
I've hand calculated the mileage on my 2008 4x4 Mega and the over head is pretty close. I bought it used and immediately took it on a short road trip and averaged nearly 19mpg. That was a month and a half ago. Since then I am lucky to get it back up to 16 after many miles on the highway. Bone stock. Is this what most folks with stock set ups would call normal? 3.73 gears btw

I am totally stock with the 6 speed Auto and 3.73 gears. I hand calculate my fuel mileage and I have an excel spread sheet that will calculate fuel mileage for total miles driven. I have a 5er and tow this on camping trips during the camping season. I drive mainly in the city with some highway driving fior a 80/20 split. My mileage may be lower then some and on par with others, I average 11.5 to 12 MPG on every tank fill-up. For a total of 12.7 MPG through 7,255.6 gallons for the year so far.
This seems to be lower then what you are reporting but this is my fuel mileage.

I just filled up and hand calculated 18.5 mpg, which is the best I've gotten so far. My driving is about 70/30 highway/intown.
The truck is totally stock with about 8500 miles on it.

well im over the 15k mark now and mileage keeps getting better! just came off a 700+ mile run where overhead said 20mpgs, hand calc. was 18.5 all highway. when first purchased would average 16.5 by hand 18 on overhead all highway. Jim I dont know how you average 12.7, I have puller the car hauler loaded and averaged better than that. I do drive slow though, 67mph when empty,65 when loaded and 90% of mileage is highway.

As I said above I do mostly city driving this is 80% of my usage. I live about 35 miles west of the Chicago metropolitian area. The only time I am on an actual highway, I am pulling my 5er and this will limit me to 12MPG maxium.
I do not mine the fuel mileage since this is better then my 6L, 2001 Chevy 3/4 ton truck. I choose to pull a 5er and thus I need at least a 3/4 ton truck. The diesel is the best choice for pulling anything and the mileage is way better than my gasser when pulling. So I live with the mileage that I am getting.

Im close to yours Jim, I get 13 at best city/hwy driving, but when I hook on to my 40ft 5ver she drops to 8.3mpg. I took my cattle trailer on a cross Texas trip yesterday (1006 miles round trip) and averaged 12.5mpg. Mines a 6spd auto with 3.73s and 4X4 Mega. Hoping it will get better!!!

I have the same truck, don't tow quite that heavy and get 9 mpg. Combined like you guys, I am getting about 13... I'm in the process of determining why certain things keep falling off, but until then I will just check and see if any MPG improves.

I haven't been around for several Months so I'm catching up
I have been spending allot of time reinvesting in my truck because of bad info from the Dark side. Soooo I make my own decisions.
I've worked hard for the last year on my 08 with a target of 25 MPG. They said ti couldn't be done. But I have, in the last two weeks hand calcued an impressive 25.7 running through the hills on Rt 80 in PA. I have been averaging 18 around town and have scene as high as 18 with a 9000 tow. Average speed highway is around 70.
It took allot of work to get that. . . I have a couple of things left on the list and then I will be done. One is to break the vacuum off the back of the cab windows and the other is go with electric fans.
No BS guys. It can be done. Ofcoarse you'll be in the poor house doing it

Just returned from a trip out west thru the Rockie's towing my 11m lb. travel trailer. Drove 6500 miles with about 500 miles being unloaded and averaged 13.1 mpg's . I'm not unhappy with that since all my emission equipment is still in place. EGR is unplugged. Ran my Hypertech Max on Level 2 and kept speed between 63-65 mph.
