exaust regeneration nightmare
I'm new to owning a Diesel but in my 6.7L with the EDGE Juice with Attitude you can see when the REGEN is happening and ensure that your emissions system is operating normally. I have had one already today, my only question is, how long is the REGEN cycle supposed to happen? Does it depend on how dirty it is?
i think as long as you have the newest flash ,it will do a lot more frequent regens, so maybe anytime it has the chance it will be in regen mode. The owners manual said it could take as little as 40 minutes or something like that, but i believe it is different with the newest flash.
40 minutes, man that's a pretty long time! Have you noticed a significant decrease in mileage during REGEN? Is the new Flash out yet? Where can I keep up to date on all of this stuff? Do you have a power module in your truck?
my truck is all stock. I dont know when the truck is regenning. Im sure it would have regenned at least a couple times since ive had the truck. I cant tell at all if it has. Im sure my mileage drops a little when its regenning, but unless you are resetting it constantly it will be tough to tell just by that alone. Im not to worried about it at this point.
I love everything about the truck and if a problem arises then ill deal with it when it happens.

Last night I was in the dealers signing papers for a new Caliber for my wife and we had to sit around for a while. A sales guy sees my CTD and starts chatting about how crappy Ferds are how he can't wait until he gets his new 6.7... So I asked him about all the regen problems and all of a sudden he had to go somewhere else fast... we were there another hour before all the papers were done and I never saw him again
Straight pipe and smoke stacked mine and am getting 19 - 20 mpg at 60mph and about 16-17 mpg at 70mph (low dpf pressure) is the only code and I dont have the dpf any longer so I just reset the computer with the edge juice w/ attitude she runs great I have 5000 miles and love the truck.
I talked with one of the techs at teh dealership I work at and he explained a few tings to me and I will try to get it right. Just to let you know, we had NO trucks in for that idue when I was talking to him.
First let me try to tell you what the system is doing. The filter holds the crap coming out of the engine. When the sensors detect that the filter is about 70% full it will tell you on the over head, you then need to drive it for about a hour at 65mph. Takes about a hour. I believe it should tell you that in the manual. Normally it will clean it's self out if you drive it on the highway. It should only come on if your using it as a short trip rig.
I did have a talk with the folks from Bully Dog and their setup has a manual regen form what I think I was told. You can run this I think without driving. They also have exhusat setups for the 6.7.
The regen takes the filter to about 1200 degrees, this burns the crap into smaller crap. Now, sooner or later though it will fill up, then the dealer can empty it, I think. The system dumps raw fuel into the sysem to raise it to 1200 degrees. Alot of ther big rigs have this system, but have manual controls too.

You HAVE to be kidding!!!!!!!! Drive the thing around for an hour at 65, that's INSANE. I cannot believe that Cummins, et.al., solved the problem by making the driver drive for a long period of time. If its true than we are 'up a creek without a paddle.'
im pretty sure the drive for an hour thing was for the fist flash b/c i never drive for an hour at highway speeds and i have had NO problems yet. The newest flashes should make it to where it does it more often at shorter intervals so it will avoid the long driving crap
not that this will fix any problems with CTD, but most, if not all, big rigs have new regulations about their emmissions that force them to put another injector in a specially designed exaust piece ( plus a glow plug) that will fire raw fuel directly into the tail pipe. this brings the temp way up & converts the soot to ash. The dealers then need to clean out the ash at regular intervals.
With this raw fuel buring in the pipe, all the exaust components have had to be made from stainless tubing now, - no mild steel allowed.
These trucks will go into regen mode but nothing is said about driving speeds ect. The injector fires when it needs to, no questions asked.

the latest and thanks for the comments,
will keep it short! the next problem was some exhaust recirc valve was not working properly so they replaced that and said good to go
well 2209 mile later check engine light came on and straight to the dealer
not bad this time
all he needed was a new turbo they think its good to go now
