exaust regeneration nightmare

My brother has 07 and it ran fine for 15k mile and then ck engine light and some regen filter on exaust said full, well after 5 trips into service and a whole new exaust system to the tune of 4 grand which dodge covered! he drove it
to wyoming this weekend and got 300 mile from home and it started acting up again (he had 6000 mile on new exaust system) well you guessed it! It got so bad it would not even run so he called tow truck to have it hauled to Denver! dodge only covers a 100 mile tow bill tho
casper wyo said they had 9 in there shop at one time and now they are down to 4 with same problems and no parts and could set a week!
dealers ships in surrounding Denver area says they are coming in like new ones off the assembly line! except tow trucks are bringing them in! I guess this regen problem is a nightmare!
so 07 owners beware you cannot unhook any of the 6 sensors on the exaust system or you will need to flash the computor! they will not run with any sensor unhooked according to one top mechanic (if there is such a thing)
oh well where is the 12 valvers

The overhead is supposed to display catalyst status at 80% with one chime but if your sirrius is to loud, you will not hear the chime. That display alternate with refer to the owner's manual display and, if the regen process work as intended and if you do what you have to do, you will be able to see the 80% going to 70%....60% down to 0%.

It would be nice if there was a light on the dash that would illuminate when there is a regen event, like on class 8 trucks.

I have had my 07 2500 6.7L for two months now and have never noticed the message flash on the overhead for the regen. I have 9500KM on it and know that it must have went into regen numerous times but I have never noticed when it happened. I am hoping that all has went well and that I wont have any issues.

This is a great idea. There is a lot of brilliant people here and I'm sure it wouldn't be hard for them to figure that one out.

You will only have the cat stat evic message if you are not driving it hard enough to do the regen (alot of low speed stop/go or too much idling).

If you are not getting EVIC messaging for catalyst full, then your system is functioning properly.

There is such a thing, but its not him.

You do not need to reflash any computers if you unplug a sensor on the exhaust. You'll get a fault code, but you don't have to reflash just because you have a fault code.

Also, they will run with the sensors unhooked. You'll have the MIL on, but the engine will run. You will also be damaging the system if you run it too long in that state, but it would run.

Your brother could have "disconnected" the dpf and drove the truck to the dealer. Not much solace for having spent so much money for a truck and then have to foot part of the bill for towing it when it stalls (thats krap), but in the future it's something to keep in mind.

If I owned one of these, I'd carry the tools required to remove the dpf just in case of such an emergency.

Good info guys! the latest is dodge put another exaust system on it (3rd one including factory) and said you are good too go! Bro said I will see you in couple of days he went another 120 miles and the light came on he went straight to the dealer and they checked it out and same thing plugged up again..
the engineers said we want fuel samples, oil samples and any thing else you can give us including a 12 valver
so I will keep you updated on the life of his 07
Thanks for the comments will pass them on to him

Is he using the ULSD fuel? If he is using LSD, the filters will clog at a crazy rate.

Just cut it all off and weld the sensors back into the pipe. All they measure is backpressure, so if it flows free, the regen will never hapen.

Pass the saw-zall

Wow that sounds simple enough! Do you think it would work?

Hmmm... Conflicting stories. Not saying I'm right, either. Hearsay...
