A couple of quick question on new 6.7, and older 5.9
My brother just bught a 09 2500, with the 6.7 and the 6 speed auto. Pretty nice, I am jealous. Two qucik questions we have on it, how / when is teh exhaust brake engaged ? I assume that engages automatically when he is in tow / hauls mode. Secondly , the fuel filter, I noticed he does not have the yellow valve thing to drain the filter for water etc like my 07 does, but thier is a clear tube that extendeds out from the bottom of the filter, don't see how to open a drain valvle though, so not sure what that tube is for.
I have an 07 5.9, I with stock air filter, I would like to replace it with something else for little extra HP, MPG etc, that is not too expensive, looking at S&B, any complaints or is their something better ?
Thanks

I believe my exhaust brake enguages above 1300 rpm, when you turn it on!!!the plastic tube is the drain there should be a valve next to it, I have one on the housing. Good luck

The EB works in T/H or standard auto. Brake must be active and will engage with a 2 second delay from 0% throttle position. It will pull down to about 30 kph (20 MPH) under load or higher if not loaded. In T/H mode the transmission will shift down to keep braking active to 3rd gear at the minimum. In standard auto it will go the stated 1300 rpm minimum RPM in the active gear and not shift down. The EB will also engage at idle in cold weather conditions to aide in warm up.
The fuel filter has a twist valve on the bottom of the filter housing with the tube connected to it. Just twist the valve to open.

You siad EB must be active, how do we get it active, I assumed when we have it tow/haul that activates the EB brake , sounds like we are wrong.
The bottom of the fuel filter housing, the clear tube extends off a white plastic looking connector, ( kind of like a garden hose barb ) is the valvle built in ?
Thanks

EB and air filters
The exhaust brake is really easy to use. You simply push the button on the bottom on the main console about a foot below the radio. The botton lights up. I start mine every time I start the truck and run it full time. At least where I live, the EB helps a great deal coming down mountain passes even with an empty truck. The EB appears to kick in based only on MPH....at about 1100 to 1300 RPM...I can remember the exact number....but it saves on brakes a great deal.
As far as aftermarket air filters adding real MPG. They might add a little but I wouldnt waste my time. I tried that already and added a Banks aftermarket and it might have added .5mpg...not really sure. But given the cost, you would never get a return. The only upside is you can easily remove the filter, clean it and reset and it does have more potential air intake. The turbo noise is louder. I could take that or leave it.
