Another ??? - 3500 or 2500?
Sorry to ask another question, but I want to gather some opinions. I have already posted about the tranny option, and I will probably go with the 6 speed auto. Now, here is another question. I will be using the new truck for snow plowing as well as other duties (landscaping part time, hauling my boat, hauling a few quads) but my main concern is snow plowing. Would buying a 3500 SRW give me a heavier duty truck than a 2500 or are they pretty much all the same? I am not sure what the difference is between the two besides the helper spring in the rear of the 3500. Thanks again for all the help.
from my understanding of it the only difference is the helper springs. If i were you i would get the 3500 SRW if you could find it!!! i wish i could have found one. I mean come on why not, its just a couple hundred bucks more and you get more "rated" performance. I will just put air bags on mine to make up the difference but you better believe if i could have found a 3500 i would have bought it!!!!
As far as I know the differance between the 2500 and the 3500 is just an extra leaf spring, the dif`s are the same, where I live they plow with 1/2 tons 3/4 tons and 1 tons, and Im about 3 hours below Hyder Alaska I like the ride of my 2500 better than the 3500 when empty.
I would find out if Dodge offers a snow plowing option package on either the 2500 or 3500 and make sure you order that with the truck. There is another thread on the site today talking about what Dodge won't cover under warranty when the customer adds equipment themselves.
My point is this: No doubt in my mind you can use a 2500 to plow with just fine, and there is only a few more springs in the 3500. BUT, if you add a snowplow to either truck and then have problems of any type, Dodge may give you warranty grief unless you bought the truck with the snow plow package.

If you are plowing snow, you need to figure it out backwards from the plow you want to run to see if you can even run it on the truck you want. The diesel option severely limits your plow options if you wish to stay below max GVWR and GAWR. Otherwise, I would say the 3500 for the extra 900 lbs GVWR.

Why would a 2500 ride any different than a 3500SRW? If the only difference is the overloads on the 3500 they should ride the same. The overloads don't even come into play until theres about 2000lbs in the bed.
I drove both a 2500 and the 3500SRW I bought. I sure couldn't tell any difference.
Dont know much about the snow down here in Texas but as far as pulling is concerned I went with the 2500. I have a bass boat that I took with me to the dealer when purchasing the truck. With the boat hooked to the 3500 all I could see was the boat engine through the rear window, nothing on the sides due to the fenders on the 3500. With the 2500 I could see the trailer fine. Good luck with either choice.
