My understanding is there is more than one kind of regen. The one for the NOX adsorber comes on pretty often but only lasts a few seconds. I don't think the dpf should be regening several times a day.

Not sure which one it is doing but it will last a couple of minutes. The overhead display always says the system is OK.

Since i've installed my Edge I have noticed I go into regen about every 100-150 miles and usually lasts for about 10 miles. I think the # of times you regen and for how long is based on the flash you have as well, as some of the different flashes have tunes for less, more prolonged regens while others have tunes for more frequent, less lengthy regens.

Number And Duration Of Regens

I don't have an EDGE but if you have gauges, just watch your EGT's and when they go up 250-300 degrees under normal driving conditions there's no doubt that you're in REGEN. Your driving "type" will determine the frequency of the regen cycle....I probably do 60/40 (city/hwy) and my frequency is running about every 55-65 miles going into REGEN and they usually average about 12- 15 minutes to complete....and it's a b----h to watch your fuel milage drop 1-1.5 mpg. I am doing good to average 14 mpg with my driving pattern but love everything else aout the truck...just waiting for the 36/36 warranty to be up and the DPF/EGR delete to get a little better and I will fix my problems......At approx 11,000 miles only had an o2 sensor crap out. I always run with the exhaust brake turned on.

I have an Edge Insight and you can set it to give you an alert when regen'ing. I had to turn it off cause every time it would alert the whole screen would start flashing red. Very annoying!! I haven't had time to go thru the manual for the Edge completely so don't understand alot of the settings but I monitor the EGR Command and a temperature for a "bank" of the DPF or NOX. When the EGR command drops from 94.9% and the temp starts rising I know I'm going into the passive regen. The temps usually get up to 1,100 * and of course the fuel mileage drops about 1.5 to 2.0 m.p.g.

Thank you for the replies, I guess I have the more aggressive regen program.

With the attitude set on level 3 I am getting 18 mpg highway. Found that out on a 325 mile trip.

Best I can tell with the Insight is that it does not give correct readings for a diesel engine. I think I also read that in the Insight manual. I did try the fuel mileage settings, I think there are two of them, but neither one worked correctly. It gave readings that were half of what I was actually getting. I have a digital monitor that came with the aux. fuel tank and I use that and my hand calcs for fuel mileage.

I can see why the mpg drops being I've heard it takes around 1.3 liters of diesel fuel for each Regen.

A complete regen cycle will use 13 liters.

Don't understand why it would take 3.439 gallons (13 liters / 3.78 = 3.439 gallons) of diesel for a full Regen? I can see 1/3 to 1/2 gallon but not almost 3.439 gallons. Anyway if the 13 liters is true then that's one heck of a lot of diesel to be put through your exhaust system just to clean out the DPF!

13L does seem a little high, but I know I'm using 3-6L per regen. I guess there are different programs. I have a cab/chassis and if I reset the overhead when the regen starts I see about 12.5mpg at 70mph where I normally see 18.5mpg at 70mph. as soon as it starts to creep up to 13mpg I can reset the overhead and within a mile it is back to reading 18-19mpg then about 300-500miles down the highway I get to waste another $6 worth of fuel. all things being the same it is about 1.5mpg overall loss for keeping soot off the bumper. I figure I'll buy $20K-$25K in fuel this year, SO paying 6-8% more for regenning a DPF does not make me happy. I've got better things to do with $1500 than to burn it in a DPF.
