Regen?

In a few words can some explain/what does the manual say about Regen? I'm new to the 07' emissions hoops.

Thinking about an 08 but. . .

Thanks everyone.

In a few words ? Wow....! Process which turned the soot particles trapped in in the DPF, diesel particle filter, into ashes....kind of...!

I am in the process of trying to determine when to replace my 06' 5.9.

I am trying to assess if this emissions process is/will be problematic requiring dealer visits which is impractical for me.

If there is a DC tech on the board, I would appreciate an opinion.

Thanks.

Why would you want to give up your almost new proven truck for an overcomplicated 'tree hugger' friendly diesel?

My 06' and previous 04' have been the best trucks I've owned to date.

But, the remote and rugged back country I operate in daily requires I replace the truck every two to three years, regardless of mileage.

I can't risk a break down. The nearest town is over 120 miles away. Celphones don't work (and, we don't want them). Dealer visits are impractical and expensive.

I'm trying to get comfortable with 07' and 08' reliability and as yet, I'm not.

Apache, I personally would stick with your reliable 5.9 for another year or so or until DC gets the emission junk figured out. just my .02 but who knows?

I would have to agree. Within the next 12 months there will be a lot of people with real world mileage and then some on their trucks. DC will have an idea of what is going on by then! It is a fact that almost every product is released with a know amout of problems that will be worked on as needed! I have worked for several new car dealer lines and the one thing I would say is NEVER buy the first year of a model change or even bodystyle change. Reat assured it will all be good soon.

Oh, and as for the regen needing to be done at the dealer, there is info in the owners manual to help people be able to do it on their own. It is when you wait too long that it has to go to the dealer. Or when it wont do it! Like I said, they'll get 'er figured out soon enough.

Agree. I'll look at replacing my 06' around mid 08'. By then, I think they'll have it lined out. I'm gettin too old to be sleepin' under the stars.

Appreciate your feedback.

Apache, how many miles on your '06? I might want to buy the thing if they don't get my 07 fixed right...and soon. I'm the author of the "In the shop with less than 1000 miles..." thread.

Thanks OneTon for your posts. I hope they get you lined out soon.

I've got 35K on the truck and will keep it if I can't get comfortable with
the production technology as it exists right now.
