I was just getting ready to say...the twin turbos is a MUST with them because Navistar can't figure out how to meet emissions/make enough power with the new EGRs they have on that new motor, etc etc...believe it or not JTheissen, those twin turbos are actually the cause of a pretty heated disagreement, if you will, between Ford and Navistar right now. It is going to push back production and cost the consumer more and Ford is pretty upset to say the least. (they are talking about SUING Navistar over this twins ordeal)...but all the luck to em' I say...I think it's embarrassing to HAVE to implement twins to be competitive with a single turbo Cummins, quite frankly. Both are rated at 350/650 if I'm not mistaken, so why all the "extras" under the hood of the Ferd?

I personally would not want a factory truck with twins, a VGT yes but twins no. You can bet those twins will be small and worthless for anything much over factory.

Didn't BMW introduce a factory twin recently? It used an unusually small primary turbo and an average sized secondary. The combo was supposed to make it perform like a gasser but have improved mileage and lower maintenance costs of the diesel.

are they really twins or sequential turbos? My understanding of a "twin turbo" set up is each bank of cylinders has a turbo attached to the manifold where sequential turbos are just lined up one infront of the other to reduce lag.
makes for great press but will it put it down where it counts?
Also, the BMW 330ti is a single low pressure turbo similiar in style to the ones SAAB runs in all their cars. It is not a turbo like those in the Misubishi EVO that put out 15lbs of boost.

What makes you think the more complicated 6.4 will be anymore reliable? Ford's getting what they deserve for demanding a v-format engine when International/Navistar makes decent I-6 offerings.
I hope Ford gets their act together. Truck consumers will eventually suffer if Ford can't put together a reliable diesel offering.

The ad on TV was the new F450 with the 6.4 Twin Turbo set up and 24,000lb
towing capacity the truck had. WOW, that sure sounds nice. All this capacity with 650 FT/Lbs of Torque, and a mighty low ratio rear end, bigger brakes, transmission, and stronger frame.
Now lets see, if Dodge does want they said last year by bringing out the 6.7 in the 4500/5500, at 750 to 850 ft/lbs of torque, using a single turbo, some of them Ferd fans are going to be second guessing themselves.
Ford is always good at TV commercials. Some of that should rub off on DC. It won't.
I wonder were the 4500 will be in tow capacity? and price?

2.) you sounded VERY excited about Ford introducing twins in their new 6.4...that's all
Open the hood to an F-450 with twins, then open the hood to a 6.7...if you were a mechanic, tell me which you would rather work on. Wasn't trying to flame, but I haven't seen much good motor-wise come from Ford since the last of the 7.3s in 2003...

My mom just picked up a BMW 330. That thing screams with no turbo lag. And the F-1 style paddle shifters on the steering wheel are slick.

at least im not the only person whos not drooling over "factory twins" on the 6.4 PSD. As soon as I heard that the 6.4 was going to have twins I rolled my eyes because I knew people would be gawking at it wide eyed because their impression of "twins" is some bombed-out cummins or dmax with Nathan's (idahoctd) twin setup. No, sorry guys, just because its "twins" doesnt mean its going to run 11's off the showroom floor.
all it means is ford couldnt figure out how to pass emmissions with a single that spooled quick enough so the answer was two small twins that infact probably flow no more air than the stock single on the LMM dmax and 6.7 cummins.
I could put two K03 turbos on my dmax and call it twins.....would it be awesome? I dont think so.
Just my oppinion...
