Whats better to do? tips or whole injector?

Whats the price difference between tips and or whole injectors? whats better to do?how do u know if the electrical part is ok and or just the tip neds changing? whats the best deals/ and or place to buy from? cummins, DTR,pdi,rockauto etc....

Injectors from Cummins are around 500-650 dollars a piece. If you get Flux tips Don will go through them and rebuild them if needed for around 110-150 dollars a piece depending on what is wrong with them.

I wouldn't just do tips, if you have an issue you will not know it because you can't test them after the install. .02cts

don goes through the tips or i have to send them my whole injector? if so ill be without m main vehicle for weeks.

Sent mine to Don M had them checked and new tips and back to me in 5 days. Probably the best mod I made on my truck.

Who is Don M.? I just got the dredded p-2146 code this morning. I was pulling a mini excavator at only 40 mph when all of a sudden the check engine light came on and I lost all power. Pulled out the smarty, set it back to stock and found the 1 code. Truck was stumbling and had no power. Disconnected the batts and both injector wiring harnesses near the valve cover. Waited 15 mins, reconnected. No check eng light and truck runns well again. Another member on here told me it could be an injector gone bad. The dealer told me they were 1,600 a piece!!!!! Yeah right... If there is not a short grounding out the wiring to the injectors and i do have to replace one or all of them, what is the best route for injectors????????

see im geting no codes. truck starts faster than most 5.9s.no hite smoke. idles mint/fine at 750 rpm, idles fine between 1100-1500 rpm. only time it sounds rough is when i automatcally let it goto 1000 rpm on its own.


only other reason is i think i have a engine vib at 1800 rpm

1800 rpm is right around the range myself and others have noticed vibrtion when a U-joint or carrier bearing is going bad... I'm having the issue as we speak and trying to find a dang one-piece driveshaft! I figured it wouldn't be this difficult...

how bad is your vib? does it rattle dsh and or steering wheel?my gps suction cup lets loose on the windshield when i lay into fuel pedal at 1800-2000 rpm.

You send him all six injectors. He installs his tips, cleans each one, replaces worn parts if needed and test them. He may test them before the tips to see if he needs to take them apart. I am not sure, call one of his venders like TRE diesel or Midatlantic diesel. They can answer the questions.
