You do not have to take the hubs off to change a u-joint on the driveshaft, axles yes, d-shaft no.

First, soak the hell out of the mating surface area with penetrating oil. Loosen the four hub bolts about 1/4 inch and then take a socket and a stubby extension that you don't mind sacrificing and wedge it against the snout of the axle shaft housing. With the truck running, use the hydraulic pressure of the power steering and work the four bolts around with the steering wheel and pop that sucker loose. It will take a while, but it will come out. There is a few write ups with pictures if you do a search also. Hope this helps, it's what I did and it works. The first one took me about an hour to do, the second one took about 15 minutes.

The real key to this method is to work side to side on the bolts. The first few times may not show any movement since it is so minor, but it will move. Watch for tiny increments at first. Use a bumping pressure with the wheel rather than a prolonged push.

Good luck

Look in the articles section under 3rd gen for an article on ball joint replacement. This article has pictures of what is described by Farmall power and Billie. Use lots of penetrating fluid often as most of it will run off.
