What kind of fuel mileage can i expect from crew cab ctd 2500

I am currently happy with my psd (please no flames), I get 17.5 on highway with winter fuel and about 18-18.5 in summer. How does this compare to you guys? Are you guys pretty pleased with your rigs? What dont you like about them? I wish dodge would make a real crew cab though, i might be swayed then. Thanks

I'm getting around 16-17 in-town lately - high idling is taking its toll on fuel mileage.

Love the truck; bought it for the Cummins. I came reeeeal close on purchasing the Ford SuperDuty PSD due to the size of the Crew Cab; but after having both my HS age sons give me a thumbs up on having enough leg room in the back of the new QC convinced me that the Dodge was the truck for me. They do think that our Mustang has more leg room in the back than the '02 QC models.

After driving numerous SuperDuty's (all auto's), one spin in the HO/6-shooter sold me.

Only one dislike - I would like it if it had manual locking hubs up front.

What could be better than switching to 4WD from the cab? Can you explain?

mileage ;D ;D
on the highway I'm getting 23-24 and city/highway 20-21, last tank was 21.3 actual(not computer)
I'm 6'5" and can sit in the back of my QC with the front seats all the way back. my knees touch the back of the seat a little, but with the front seat all the way back it's almost too far back to drive

Most likely it is for the ease of backing a trailer in a 2WD-LOW gear. This way the front axle does not bind or wrap up and cause jerking of the front end. This way also you get to move slower if you are unfamiliar with the area you are parking.

I like the honest "crew cab" of the Ford also, but I own all of the big 3 right now. I am looking to purchase an 03 soon and took one for the weekend not long ago. I am 6'2" and 285 lbs, if you drive a 3rd Gen get one with the power pedals, even with my height I can move the pedals all the way down and slide the seat up for more rear room, and never feel uncomfortable. Actually I cannot drive easily with the seat all the way back. This was a HO/6-shooter, and it drove like a dream.

Commatoze, who ever said I don't like shifting into 4WD on the fly in the cabin? Its just like bneaves said above. In tight close quarter backing of my 3-axle boat trailer, I'd rather not have all that bucking&chucking going on. The first time I experienced it, it brought up mental images of helmets.

As I said earlier, I had looked mostly at Ford, and "assumed" that the Dodge HD's had the manual hubs. I still would have bought the RAM. Hey, they orig poster asked what we didn't like - I told him.

Dude, you're missing my point. Let me repeat it. I don't know SQUAT about 4 wheel drives. I was asking a question, not trying to flame you. Thanks for the kindly explaination. :...geez..

Commatoze, I haven't missed your point. No need to repeat anything, you've mentioned it twice now that your new to 4 wheel drives - I believe you. I never thought you were flaming me, nor did I intend to for my response appear as an anti-flame response.

Lets get this back on thread.

;D Well, my trucks not here yet, but I also get 51.6 lifetime average on my TDI VW Jetta @ 40K miles.

To the point of the thread, I was talking to a trailer transporter Sat. at the dealership, and he indicates he is getting 16 MPG towing with a 3500 4X6 automatic, although I got the impression he didn't drive very fast. He was a retired trucker after 25 years.

Another coworker has a 2000 6-speed and gets 20 unloaded and 14 towing a Jayco 30' 5er.

My parents truck (see signature) has seen a high of 22.8mpg actual on the highway @ 70mph and running around town their truck gets 17.6-19.2mpg. The truck barely has over 1000 miles on it and if this is an indication of what this truck is going to do in the future it can only get better. ;D

Joe

That includes 80mph on the interstate like you with 3.73s. I've got about 3000 miles on mine. I'm hoping taller tires will knock enough of the rpm out to help the 80mph hwy cruise.

My first tank was 18.5 (all city), another all city tank was 19.8, and the last two tanks that were mostly highway driving were 20.8. The computer typically shows 1 mpg higher than calculated.

Has about 2400 miles on it now.

I'm happy so far. My old Suburban struggled to get 17 on the highway with a very light foot.

Mike in Arkansas
