Looking at a Dodge.. What kind of Fuel Mileage Can I Expect?

I am looking at getting a Dodge. I have an O3 Chevy Crew Cab with the 6.0L I am getting 8 and 10 MPG!
I want a Dodge Diesel. What year Dodge's Get the Best Fuel Mileage?
and What kind of MPG can I expect to get out of a Dodge Diesel?
Some say 12 Valves are better? Some Say 24 valves are better and Some say the 24 valve H.O. is better? All opinions are from guys I work with that don't own Dodge's. I would like an opinion from someone who actually owns a Dodge Diesel.

hi

I have a 98 12 valve and get 18-19 mpg empty and about 13-13.5 towing my 5th wheel trailer..It only weighs about 6000 lbs..my truck has a 410 re so that pulls the mileage down a little..I have a 2011 Laramie on order and dont expect to get as good with it from what I am hearing..

if you delete the egr and dpf you can see an increase in mileage. some tuners also help with mileage as well. +1-2 mpg. everything helps right?

I had a '07 Ram 2500 4x4 5.9 CTD and 6 speed manual, stock I could get 18mpg empty and 16 pulling a 4000lb boat/trailer. Installed a Smarty Jr. on it and set it on the towing setting. Mileage went to 20 mpg empty and 18 pulling the same boat/trailer.

Traded it in on a '11 Ram 2500 4x4 6.7 CTD, automatic. It is all stock and I get about 15 mpg empty and 13 mpg pulling the same boat/trailer.

The newer trucks get alot worse fuel mileage but the ride, interior and all around better truck is worth the drop in mpg to me.

Are Some 5.9 Diesels better than others?

I am looking for a Dodge Diesel and have been doing a lot of reading on them. Are some 5.9L's better than others? Read something about some of the Blocks on some years not holding up??
Also, what year 5.9's get the best fuel mileage or are they all the same?

My 2010 get 1-2mpg better than my 02, of course once you delete. I get 17-20mpg, empty and depending on how fast you drive. Towing I get 13-14mpg.

Pre-delete, 14-16mpg empty, 9-11mpg towing.

You guys quoting MPG figures... are these hand-calculated figures or are you using the overhead computer? I don't trust the overhead computer at all... four Dodges and none were even close. My current truck reads 4 mpg high empty and 2-3 mpg high when towing.

most who know anyhting will quote hand calculate. But the general concensus for these new trucks is that the computer is very accurate, unlike the previous years. Mine has always been less than .5mpg off on a full tank and resetting after every tank or so. Resetting , driving 20 miles, and reading the computer isnt accurate as some people would like to think

Mine are hand calculated, but the EVIC has been very, very close to the handcalculated number. I never reset the EVIC average in order to get a real average.
