hey i just fired up the truck first time today since i shut down last night. i immediately turned the ac on because it is 80F+ outside. right after i turned it on i heard a thud/bump sound.

I remember this sound when i was test driving other truck similar to mine, and i think it happend last night when i had the a/c on but this time it was apparent. enough to make me post this.

anyone else experience this? or have any idea what it is or if it is normal?

that would be your a/c compressor clutch kicking on.

Ya mine does just ignore it, unless it breaks than fix it. But don't take it to the dealership my dad just called took his truck in to get that one free oil change I begged him not to but he did anyway and they introduced it to a big pole.

it's not a problem, that compressor is pretty large, and is bringing the pressures up to 150+psi. so it takes some force to overcome the intial inertia of starting it up. you'll hear a bump. same thing if the defroster is on when you start it.
