Question Valve Adjustment?????

Anybody adjusted the valves on their truck? I didn't even know that they were adjustable. Anybody have the exhaust valve and intake valve clearance numbers? I have adjusted a many a valve. No need to take this in to dealer. This is routine service in my book.

24V valve adjustment procedure

I wrote that for the 2nd gen 24V but should be the similar to the 3rd gen with the exception of the valve cover.

06' & up the numbers are slightly different. I think 89-05 are as stated in this post. 10 intake/ 20 exhaust.

for a 2006, the range is below...
intake: 0.006"-0.015"
exhaust: 0.021"-0.034"

the manual says to set the intake at 0.010" and the exhaust at 0.026".. i guess the extra clearance on the exhaust is for the higher nominal egt's on the 600 engines...

Valve clearance specs are ALLWAYS on the Dataplate on the valve cover. They've been .010" int. & .020 exh. for every cummins B series for the last 10 years +/-.

Nick and Bigwheels both are telling the true story. Nick's values are right out of the manual, and Bigwheels are right off the decal on the valve cover

I recomend adjusting the valves every 30K miles.Equivelent to about 500 hrs.If you wait 'till 100K,etc. they may be pretty hosed up by the time you get around to adjusting them.It takes only 1/2 hr to do. why wait?
