Turbo blow off valve??? Help!!!
Not sure if this is normal or not but... When i was pulling my fifth wheel home i was climbing some pretty steep hills. Well when i got to the top of the hills i would let off the gas some. I heard some wierd noise like there was alot of boost built up and when i let off it released the pressure. Like if there is a turbo blow off valve... It has done it 3 times now. I never heard it before but, this last trip i had a Quadzilla 65HP chip. And now i also have a S&B air intake! It also just did it on my way home from work. I started out at a stop light and got up to about 55 and let off and it did it... And i gradually built up speed i didnt have my foot into it! Any help would be great!

On my '03, it does the same thing but it isn't the wastegate. The boost pressure is at it's peak and the load pulls the motor down in rpm quicker than the exhaust can escape so it stalls the compressor side and the sound you hear is the turbo "burping" some of the pressureized air back into the intake tube 'cause the engine rpms aren't 'digesting' the incoming air from the turbo and it has to go somewhere. Mine started when I replace the stock intake stuff with a smooth bore 4" stainless tube & a K and N cleaner element. The sound was more pronounced.
Normal stuff.

I could have sworn it was the wastegate at that high of boost.
I read the reply's and start to feel good. Then... "its called turbo bark, and is not good for stock turbos" So you shouldn't change the intake unless you plan on upgrading turbos?

changing the intake wont cause it to bark. the intake just allows you to now hear when you're barking it.
barking is usually caused by high boost levels and suddenly getting off the throttle. the volume of air has nowhere to go, but is temporarily still being produced because of the inertia of the turbo. the air has noplace to go, backs up into the compressor and makes it bark.
