Trying out the John Deere Oil!

I bought 3 gallons of the John Deere CI4 oil today. GOing to give it a go this change and compare UOA's to the ones I have with the Premium Blue. Anyone else ever use it?

Would like to know as well. This may be a dumb question, but what weight would you use in the winter; what I mean is do they make a synthetic or not? Is there only 15/40w?

I think I actually paid 17.00 a gallon. 4.00 more than the Premium blue but it is CI4, so I want to see if the 4.00 really protects better

For those prices, you guys need to find a Schaeffers rep and see some oil that is premium. You won't look for anything else. It is better that any top name and is less money.

And the continuing saga of which oil gives greatest bragging rights continues. Cummins gives a spec for oil. Virtually anything (within reason) that meets that specs will give satisfactory performance and life.

If it's on the shelf at Wally World, it goes in the truck.

All these hogh priced oils are a waste of money.Rotella-t 15/40 is as good as it gets with the cummins, the big fleets don't waste their money on overpriced oil.

All these high priced oils are a waste of money.Rotella-t 15/40 changed regularly is as good as it gets with the cummins, the big fleets don't waste their money on overpriced oil. Most people who put this high priced oil in their engines aren't driving 100k per year.

Ya know, I have done a lot of reading and searching on the CI4 and CJ4. From what I have read, it seems the new oil is a better choice. Fill me in on why they are wrong. These companies are saying that the wear, additive ect... is a lot better, so help me understand why everyone likes this CI4 soooo much better.

Here is an article from TDR that may help explain why.

and here is a very long thread that will also have some links and info from some very knowledgeable "oil" guys. Hope this helps.

I know of people driving big diesels millions of miles without OH, using Schaeffers.
Feel free to buy what you like. It is your truck and your money.
BTW, you can buy Schaeffers for under $16 a gallon.

Ya know. After reading those long threads that Texas CTD posted, I still don't see what is so much better about CI. It seemed everything that was posted was heresay, or I think. No one had a real post of a sample in perfect comparison that proved it being so great. You show me a 100k miles motor that was driven the SAME way as another 100k mile motor with the 2 diff oils, then maybe you will have proof. Just use a good brand of oil, Rotella, Schaeffers, Amsoil.....ect. and you'll be fine. CI or CJ. Both work great. My samples from Blackstone with the NEW Rotella CJ are great. I am done worring about it.
