Truetrac for 2003+ Dodge 2500 with AAM 9.25 front axle

Has anyone else heard that Eaton will be coming out with a Detroit Truetrac for the 2003 and up Dodge 2500 with the AAM 9.25 front axle?

Yeah, I heard it was supposed to be available in August or September...

If it was released, it sure was quiet...

I just spoke with a west coast drivetrain shop, and they said it should be out in mid-November. I am getting ready to change my gears, and I want to install the front truetrac at the same time.

I'll believe it when I see it...

Something I'm interested in for sure though...

I already have my 4.56 gears. If the front Detroit Truetrac is only a month out, i'll wait so I can install it with my gears.

Since I am not the only one that drives this vehicle, I worry about putting a selectable locker in front and having someone engage it on a highway by mistake resulting in an accident.

Here is a copy of the email that I received from Scott at Eaton:

Mr. Block-
We appreciate your interest in our products.
The 9.25" Truetrac will start shipping late this month (PN 914A643).
Currently there aren't any plans to build a Detroit Locker or an ELocker
for the 11.5" AAM axle. We recently released our Truetrac for that axle
(PN 915A568) and it's been proven to be what is needed for almost every
user. We've even placed a couple of units in sled pull trucks with
great success. (end of message)

I did hear that ARB should have an air locker for the 11.5 AAM rear axle sometime in February.

i would think that a TT up front would have some wierd handling traits ( during heavy braking into a corner??) if you do not have locking hubs. How is yours holding up??? how does it handle??

The Truetrac for the front is not out yet. It should be out later this month. I am doing my gears soon, and I want to install the Truetrac at the same time.

I talked to a rep from Eaton about 6 months ago and he said that for sure a Detroit was in the works in about a year.

Would the unit allow the front axle to work more like on an AWD vehicle? Such as my wife's AWD Durango? I don't have to use 4X4 often but hate the scrubbing/shuddering from the front when turning in 4X4 or maneuvering to back up a trailer in 4X4 low. I know it's from both wheel being forced to turn at the same speed, just don't know why Dodge or AAM could not make an AWD type diff for the front.

The shuddering is because the front and rear axles are tied together solid in 4x4. AWD vehicles (like my Wife's Land Rover Discovery) use a clutch or slip coupling in the transfer case to allow the front and rear wheels to rotate at different speeds, required in turning. The front diff is an open differential now.

I have a Tru Trac diff in the front of the Discovery. It works great short of rock crawling. There is a greater self-centering effect on the front, but there would be no effect with the front diff disengaged (2wd mode).
