Handling chacteristics with a Truetrac in the front axle?
Are there any undesireable handling chacteristics with a Truetrac in the front axle?
Would it only affect operation in 4WD or would there be a pronounced effect in 2WD also?
What could I expect on an icy road in 4WD and 2WD?

id imagine it would pull you all over the road. the tru track isnt a full locker i believe i was thinking of getting one in my mud truck and the the tru trac was the best option but didnt want the hassle of fighting the wheel the whole time. i was told this on another forum but who knows maybe it would work?
I have a jeep with tru tracks front and rear. Really can't even tell they are there. They are not really lockers, more a gear type possi. No special oil, no chattering, no pull. They work fine as long as the wheels are on the ground. so mud is good, rocks bad. I think the factory possi is a gear driven unit on the '03 up.
I installed a Truetrac in the front differential, and there is no difference while operating the vehicle in 2WD. Since nothing in the front axle is receiving any power or torque, it is un-noticeable in operation.
With the front axle engaged in 4WD on an unplowed, snow-covered road, it tracks straight; however, you can tell that it is there as it "hunts" for traction. This "hunting" is the slight side-to-side pull as the torque transfers from the right axle to the left axle while the differential searches for traction. (On a muddy road or low traction surface this is a good thing and is probably the reason why you purchased this differential in the first place.)
On a hard packed, snow-covered road or icy road you have to take corners a little slower than if you had an open differential as the front wants to pull straight ahead. That being said, if you take corners at a reasonable speed appropriate for the prevaling weather conditions, you will have no problems driving with this differential in the front axle.
Driving a vehicle equipped with a Truetrac in the front differential(in 4WD) is similar to driving a vehicle equipped with the factory rear anti-spin differential in wet weather in that care must be excersized while the vehicle is in operation.

For the best of both worlds put in the ARB air locker, about $400 more. You get on board air for whatever you want and an open diff for regular use plus a LOCKED front diff when you really need it, just watch those axels.
I have had both the ARB and the TrueTrac. The ARB is alot more, but is worth the coin if your gona do it. Selectable lockers are way cool!! In my expireance, the ARB compressor really isnt enough by itself to power tools. If you run a small tank it works well.
