Transmission??
Im about to get an 07 w/ 5.9liter and on the fence about what tranny to get. I want the 6 speed, but I know my significant other wont be able to drive it (which might not be that bad). And ill be in atlanta traffic, so Im also thinking about the auto and there close to me where ill have to drive about 150miles to get the 6speed. The thing also is I can get a little better deal on the auto. So my question is does any with the manual wish they got the auto, or anybody with the auto wish they got a manual???

I have the auto and wish I had a manual. Then I finally got to drive one with a six speed manual. That definately made me go hmmmm. Shifting in traffic would be terrible. Pulling heavy it would be great. I'll put it to you this way, after driving a manual it didn't make me want to go out and buy one. Just going to mod my auto one day.
Best advise I could give you is go drive all three, 48re, 68fre, and 6 speed manual (G56 or NV5600) and make your own mind up.

I really wish I did have a manual. But I like my current auto truck too much to get rid of it. Maybe a tranny swap is in my future, hmph.............maybe not.

i hated it because i like to tow and when not towing be able to throw down into it, the manual is slow, and when towing on hills and after downshifting you loose more boost and unlike an auto which keeps its momentem and boost and keeps moving along!

I had an 04.5 2500 with an auto. After 30k miles I couldn't take the lack of shifting control any longer and traded on a 05 3500 with an NV5600. This was in 06 when the 0% financing ruled. That change of heart cost $10k because the G56 trans was geared too low so I said no deal unless they could find a truck equipped with the NV5600. They found a 2005 with 10k miles traded for the finance deal, so I bought it.
I'll tell you that the G56 shifted smoother than the NV5600 and now that they've fixed the final drive ratio, it might be the way to go. My wife had no problem driving my 6-speed truck from the very first attempt. It's difficult to stall these beasts and women typically granny shift anyway. What's traffic? 2nd to 4th.... that's it. Even 5th will go down to 35mph on level ground.
I've 32k on this beauty now and would never go back. Towing is even better.

Oh yeah, I was stuck in Atlanta traffic one time I-675 and I-75 for 2-3 hrs. I did thank my lucky stars I had an auto then. I would of had to mail my leg home because it would of fell off before I got out of town good with a manual.
