How does one tell what tranny he has in a 2003 ctd 4x4 could have been a 47re or 48re. Can you tell by the vin # or some other number on the truck? Thanks in advance.

 

on my 97 i believe it is listed on the label on the front bottom of the hood...not sure where it is on the new ones (i have never been in one) might also check glove box

 

The glove compartment has a build codes label stuck to the backside of the door with that info, if its got DG8 code beside the autotrans it's the 48RE. HO engines that year were all supposed to be 48RE and the SO 265 HP engines were the 47RE.
