Which auto tranny do I have?
I'm digging through Chilton and my owner's manual looking to identify which auto tranny our '99 CTD AT, 4X4 LB has. Chilton says that '96 and later use the 42RE, 46RE, or 47RE four speed auto. The owner's manual doesn't ID anything. I looked at the under-hood label but it doesn't ID which one it is.
I want to purchase a Mopar filter and gasket to change the tranny fluid. Geno's has one kit for '98 to '04, but MoparPartz.com has the filters and gaskets, sold separately, by tranny type rather than year range, and they seem to be cheaper.
Also, is Quaker State ATF+3 for use in Chrysler Corp. ATs okay? The manual say to use Mopar ATF+3 or ATF+3, Type 7176; Chilton says Mopar ATF+3, Type7176.
Aside from purchasing from the dealer, are there any stores that carry filters, gaskets and the correct fluid (retail stores, not online)?
Help!

The '99 came with the 47RE.
Don't ask me how I know.........

1st Tranny fluid change I used ATF+3 that I bought at Advance Auto parts.
Worked OK for 25,000 miles.
Last change I used AMSOIL Universal AFT+4.
Going on 5,000 and still shifts great.
Might be a good idea to adjust the bands while you have the pan off.

Nevermind ---- I found out which tranny I have by calling Dodge. They wanted 24.03 for the filter and 19.31 for the gasket (47RE tranny). MoparPartz.com had the filter for 12.62 and the gasket for 3.19!!
I will look for the Amsoil aTF+4

The Amsoil was goin' for about $7 and change a quart.
I dropped the pan, and loosened the valve body during the drain.
It took 11 qts to refill.
But it's worth it to get a pure synthetic & extend the milage between changes.
