Newbie here - ?'s about buying a CTD
I'm considering buying an '05 QC, SWB, 4x4, auto, 3.73 Cummins -
I've searched and found quite a bit about the 2k rpm vibration - and seen some discussion about the door seals ripping. But is there anything else that I should look out for?
I'm looking for things that I can check for during the test drive of the truck I''m about to buy - so I don't come back here only to say "**** - I wish I had seen that thread before I signed the paperwork!".
Thanks for any advice you can give....

Hey just remember they are made by people so they are not perfect. Just pick out the one you want and then "Drive it Like YOu Stole it"
If yo are picky like the rest of us then you will find somthing wrong no matter what, so just remember to wipe that
off your face as you leave the dealership in that new truck.

I'll definetly be fully "Testing" the truck before I sign the papers - just not sure what to look/listen for as I currently drive a Toyota 4runner which is pretty darn smooth.
I'm afraid I'll be having so much fun listening to the turbo that I'll miss something.

Hey Jim, I know you won't get yourself all paranoid about those issues you mentioned, but remember that what you read here in these threads are mostly "problem related" and how folks are trying to resolve them.
You should know that most folks have not experienced any of those issues - I'm in that group.
Now, for the important stuff: If you really want to have some fun, drive a 6-shooter.

Jim, JUST DO IT! you wont regret it. I wouldnt trade mine for five of my old truck. 99 ram 318 quad cab it got 10 mpg (empty) downhill with a tail wind. Twice as much power. I LOVE IT! The wife has different views though! Spendin more time with the truck than her will do that

I just got back from a test drive - and I checked for the vibe and didn't really notice anything. How subtle is it? I maybe felt a little something at arount 70 but I think I may have been imagining it as I was expecting it. My rear mirror certainly wasn't blurring.
This was an '05 with the 610 motor, 4x4, auto, 3.73.
Man I like that truck!

from the sounds of it you would notice the vibe if the truck had it. I would not worry about the door seals etc... as thats what your warrenty is for.
I got my 04.5 in May and to date I need new door seals and I my driver's door lock mechanism failed.
The door lock was fixed by the dealer, and I just need to schedule a trip for the door seals.
I still
every time I drive it. Enjoy

Thanks everyone - I'll have to drive it again for more than the obligatory 10 minute drive in traffic. We hit one back road where I was able to get it up to about 72 - next time I WILL be getting on the highway.
I can't stop thinking about it now - a test drive wasn't a good idea for someone who isn't quite ready to buy.

Forget about the 2nd test drive your gonna buy the truck. The hook has both lips now. Let me guess, the 2005 dodge ram book is on the top of the magazine stack in the bathroom.
Just be sure your happy with the price. Make sure your getting all the insentives. The vibe is the most common gripe on the truck. Go gradually from about 65 to 75 to make sure its not there or slightly there.
Enjoy the new truck

Stress over the price check out edmunds.com and carsdirect.com then go and show the dealer their prices along with the dealers inventory # for the particular truck you want dodge.com price and build you own. I got mine Laramie loaded for 37,800 and it has everything,(including sunroof) ,but no adjustable pedals or GPS.
Above all never let them talk you into anything less than what you really want or more than what you really need. Don't get starrie eyed get serious!
You are going to love this truck!

I'm not too worried about pricing - as I'm working with a couple of dealers who were recommended here. So far they've been outstanding - no BS - just a great price.
I just need to sell my car first - anyone want an '04 G35 Coupe 6-speed?
