Trading 6.7 for 5.9, 48re questions

I'm trading my 07 6.7 4x4 6 speed man for a 07 5.9 4X4 re. The 6 speed does fine for towing but none are available in my area in the remaining 5.9's.

Have the bugs been work out of the 48 re for normal towing (5-8K) and reliability ? Would you feel OK with a 48re??

The only problem I have had with my 48re is the shuttle shift, but I have learned to drive around it, other than that it has performed flawlessly.
I also haul a 15k 5ver, I did put a Mag-Hytec double deep pan on it and a set of (A) pillar gauges with the tranny temp gauge in the hot line going to the trans cooler.

The 48RE will be more than dependable if you don't bomb the heck out of the engine. I have gone through 2 48re trannies, but it's been my fault. I can't leave anything alone!

At very light throttle pressure, when the trans upshifts from 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd, it cant't make up its mind which gear to be in, so it shifts up then back down very quickly then back up. I have learned to either lighten up more or accelerate a little faster so my trans won't do it. I believe DTT transmission service has a fix for this.

Thanks, I usually pull horses twice a week, so I think I'll be OK. I'll probably keep it stock. I had heard some horror stories about 2 yeas ago about the 48re so I just wanted to speak to some folks that weren't going to BS me and had some knowledge.

even if you threw about $2500 in the tranny, it will benefit the truck as well as the tranny. a simple valvebody and torque converter upgrade can make a world of difference in the 48re and save the tranny and your wallet in the long run.

My .02 on that. If he plans on keeping the truck stock, why feel teh need to spend ANY money on teh tranny, much less $2500? Warranty covers it if it fails, and is free. Once outside of the warranty, I can see. But brand new? No way

Stock it's a good tranny. Take good care of it and it will work just fine.
