Flexplate option's

Is the factory plate the best to get, or are they junk and that's why they crack. What else is available, and what's a ball park price. It's for a 48re automatic. Thank's.

Come on guy's. I know at least one or two of you have changed a flexplate. Did you use factory, or after market.

The 03s and early 04s had stronger flexplates than the 04.5s and newer. I would assume that they might be interchangeable. When I had the trans built for my 03 I was told that the stock plate was fine and to save my $750 or whatever the billet plate cost. You can get a billet flexplate from any of the big aftermarket tranny places....

most people change their flex plates when the trannies are out. Suncoast, HTS, BD, a few others are stronger than stock. The ats is billet which is probley the most expensive. If you have to change, upgrade so its taken care of if you increase your power level.

check the classifieds for a used stock one...sometimes they can be had cheap and if you not going to add lots of power that would be the most cost effective route. also there was an add for a rebuilt tranny....you give him a broke one and $1k dollars and you get a new one

I'd get an aftermarket laminated flex plate. I hear the billet flex plates are too harsh because there is no flex to it.
