Towing in OD

I have a toyhauler weighing out about 11K loaded. Wondering if it would hurt anything to take it out of Tow/Haul mode when at cruising speed on flat ground and tow in OD. Any thoughts?

I would assume as long as you don't lug your motor and the Pyro temps stay in a good range. I don't see what harm it would cause.

You may need to drop it out of OD if you wanted to pass or pick up a good amount speed, but just cruising, sure.

Is the 48re the same as the 47re in the aspect that you need to have your rpms around 1800 before the trans has full line pressure? I will be pulling around 4000 lbs some this summer and would rather pull it in od as opposed to drive but don't want to tear anything up.

I tow a 10,000 lb. travel trailer and use OD most of the time. I have a BD X-monitor and watch the EGTs carefully when I tow. I can tell if the engine starts luging because the EGTs will go up I can then take it out of OD and push some more air through the engine and it will cool down some. When I had my 01 with the 47RE there was a lot of talk about keeping the RPM above 1500 to 1800 I can not remember which, to keep the fluid moving through the cooler fast enough so the transmission would not over heat. I know my transmission temp. was always much higher in stop and go traffic. I would sometimes put it in neutral and run the RPM up some to try and cool down the transmission.

I tow 10,000# in OD up hills and down.
I watch the trans temp on the X-monitor.

The only time I have trans temp problems is in stop/go traffic. Rarely, up hill with headwinds... it starts to hunt. I'll hit tow/haul then to stop the hunting.
