Valve Cover Removal

Hows it going fellas. I have a quick question to ask, this is probly in the wrong fourm so fell free to move it if it is.

A few days ago I went to unplug my truck and warm it up to leave. As I was unplugging it I noticed that there was a nice sized wad of Pink insulation behind my valve cover. Well upon further inspection a **** mouse/rat decided to make a home on the back side of the valve cover right in front of the firewall. I cleaned it all up, or so I thought. Today I went to pop my hood to unplug the truck and I saw the creature run acorss the plastic piece where the hood closes and touches.

Anyways, I suspect that there is a gap on the back side of the valve cover and he is possibley staying there or there is still some insulation stuffed up there. I see the 4 screws to take it off, I just want to know if it is ok to remove it without causing any issues?

Im off to Home Depot to load up on rat killer and sticky traps. He better hope I don't catch him my self, i'll use him as a baseball.

Thanks, Nate

Maybe he will just jump off at home depot so no need to purchase anything.

Maybe he will always find his way home back to your truck.

You know, it's weird because one day I drove it all around town. Next moarning, went to fire it up and he ran across the bottom part of the front grill and dipped into the truck somewhere. I didn't see where he went but I was hopeing he would hit my fan blade when I was doing 70mph. It would be a mess but he would learn his lesson.

I think he knows when the truck is going to fire up and he jumps out and hides somewhere. He must be attracted to my truck cause it's always plugged in and warm.

I just don't want to wake up one moarning and have my truck throw a code cause he chewed through my ECU wire or something.

Get a Cat

I'd get a cat and turn it loose for a night or two.

I watched last night on the local news that Whidbey Is, WA is having an infestation of them. They reported about and showed two vehicles that were in local shops because they had built nest and had been nawing away at the electrical wires causing all sorts of problems.

Don't tell me that. That's the last thing I want to hear. You guys think Dodge will warranty knawed through wires by rodents?

Im glad im not close to Washington.

Like I said, if I catch this thing I will toss him in the air and he will tell what a wooden bat feels like.

The wet and cold weather up here is bringing them out in droves to find warm/dry places. I whacked two last week in my yard while weedeating. My neighbor 2 houses down has cats, but they seem to only want to eat bugs. My black lab loves to play with them until they're dead.

Going to set some traps

Wow Banshee, I'm not that far from you. Better get busy and set some traps then because I don't need gnawed wires.

Problably not a good idea comming from me, but maybe not plug your truck in for a night or two so the little sucker goes somewhere else?? or go put a heating pad under your truck with poison on it, and he'll go there and feast then lay down to rest Just my idea

Had a mouse get stuck in the rotor once on my dad's truck. Brakes caught fire going down a hill (big hill lots of weight and for some reason my dad dosn't let the trailer brakes stop the trailer, don't ask why) and we had our selfs a nice blackened skeliton

I put 2 packs of poision under my truck. One by each wheel. I then left my hood open and put 3 sticky pads on top of the engine. One on the valve cover, one on the battery, and one on the plastic trim where the hood latches. I even stuck a pack of poison on the air box. Nothing was touched.

My guess is he got his little *** froze out on the highway in the 10* weather when I was going 70mph.

Weird thing is my dad's truck is parked right next to mine, plugged up also and he has no infestation problems. Atleast that we can see anyway.

You joke about it. I had a local garbage company try to get me to warranty some electrical work I did to their truck where rats had chewed the wiring. It got submitted and the headquarters responce to me was, " the rats were not factory installed so there for not covered under warranty"
Im serious!

Those critters are pretty crafty, they can get into some pretty tight places and reak havock. Growing up in Texas, we would do target shooting at night on Wood Rats. To give you an idea how big they are, cats are usually afraid of them my guess on average they weigh about 3-5 pounds.
