IL and IN towing speed limits?

both states have 55mph speed limits for trailers, but it seems to be that there's an unwritten rule that if u stick to 65 and go no faster the cops won't bug ya, is that generally the case? I usually go 65-70 in IL, only been thru IN a couple times with the trailer. going that way this weekend and don't need a ticket!

>I'd back off the hammer if I were you. I pull over there a lot, those guy's are real a$$ h0ls [****] [tool]. One time I was picking up a trailer in akron Ohio and while coming back home through Ill. at about midnight I got in between some truckers and we ran about 85-90 all the way from Indiana to St.louis on I-70 [evil] [evil] [evil], that was fun but I don't think I'll try it again [disappointed]

Crazy ain't it,,,,,,,,,, feels like you're just poke'in along. [disappointed] We (my folks pullin their rig and the wife and I pullin ours) went thru on our way to WI year before last, and we ran right at 60mph with no problems. However, the folks went thru in Jan. of this year driving the car and said evidently the state police were having a crack down, because everything pullin anything was running right on the double-nickle. They also said the state boys were makin sure they were seen quite frequently. I guess it comes down to What ever your record can stand :

Re:IL and IN towing speed limits?

When I went through Il My radar detector would go off almost all the time and I could never see a black and white... no matter how hard I looked. I finally figured that they were shootin from the sky, cause I couldn't see any on the ground....... I did follw the 55mph ... I'd have to goto jail cause I'll be damned if some pretty boy yankee state trooper was gonna give me a ticket and make me drive all the way from Texas to Il to get it dismissed....... btw, ifn ya haul a trailer through OK then get ready to shell some dineros to get to St. Louis from here..... they charged about 3 bucks an axle the last time I went through there.
Brennan

Re:IL and IN towing speed limits?

IL will generally give you 6MPH over, anything over that and you are fair game. Usally a warning citation is given on anything up to 9 over. Ten (10) is a hit and don't believe because you drive back 500 miles to appear in court that it will be dismissed, even with your repair ticket in hand for your broken speedo it ain't gonna happen. 15 or more wins you the jackpot. Don't bother to talk to the trooper as he will tell you to stay in your vehicle and mean it. As in other states some troopers are better then others but they are tough in IL.

Re:IL and IN towing speed limits?

Michigan only says trucks must go 55 -- everyone else follows the posted limit which is usually 65 or 70. Of course, some still have to go faster... :

Tony

Re:IL and IN towing speed limits?

Keep her down around 60 65mph and you won't have anything to worry about in Indiana. The State Troopers are pretty cool and don't bother trucks with trailers much. 8) Main thing is to make sure all the lights work on the trailer, they can get kinda $hity about that but they are pretty lax on the Speed Limit.

DB

Re:IL and IN towing speed limits?

I run generally about 3 miles over the limit except when I see that I am passing all the trucks then I slow down. That is a good practice, if you see the trucks running two mile under the limit, slow down, they have a reason.

Get yourself a good CB and antenna, the big guys are always telling each other where the patrols are.
