Tow/Hual-Trans Temp

Bought a 2005 3500 Auto, 4x4 212,000 miles. Occainsionally the Tow/hual light will come on along with the trans temp light for just a second. It downshifts and rpms go up when this happens. What could be going on?
Thanks

Thats wierd. Sound like it could be computer problem. I'd take it in to a dealer
and have the latest tranny program installed.

My tranny runs about 100 degrees above ambient temp unless going stop light to stop light. Same when towing. As read by the computer via my Edge Attitude, Juice controller. Reading is off one of the sensors up in the tranny.

One of the tranny guys will get on this shortly.

It is supposed to do that when the transmission fluid is to hot.. it will down shift which increases rpm/atf flow cooling it down.. try a atf fluid change and while the pan is off change out the gov pressure sensor.. the temp sensor is part of it.. if it continues to heat up you'll have to figure why i.e. slipping clutches or clogged cooler.. with 200,000 miles it maybe the clutches slipping.

I I would say the sensor is bad if it's only downshifting for a second or 2

After I take the pan off, where would that sensor be located?

Also saw where someone suggested changing the TRS sensor. Where is this and are these parts that can be obtained at Oriellys or NAPA

Its located On the V body.. If you buy one before ya drop the pan you will recognize it right quick, its on the passenger side rear corner of the valve body I believe..

Hey CoastalDav,
Just bought an Edge Juice, any pointers you can offer I would appreciate it. Have it set on #2.
Also noticed the EGT's fluctuate significantly, is that normal?
What does your Tranny heat run at WITHOUT towing? One last question, what the heck does the BOOST mean?

EGT's are up and down with the fuel pedal. Give her more fuel and up they go until the power levels out. When towing, they will increase with load. Set your alarm for 1300 degrees. I run on the stock position around town and on the #1 position or Mileage when on the interstate. It will hard to stay away from the #3 bottom or Drive. That will burn some fuel and is close to 800ft/lbs or torque.

When towing I run up to tow speed in the stock position and when at tow speed put it in Tow or #2. You won't believe that. If your pulling heavy it will run the EGT's up, but not real fast. Takes about 2 miles up hill to get there.

Boost is the air pressure (PSI) put out by the Turbo. Set your alarm for 40psi.

Set your Tranny Temp alarm to 220. Engine temp 215.

Look at your records section for max's while driving that day. Keep track of Tranny slip and backdown if you have an automatic. Backdown is the % of fuel the Juice reduced when it sensed your tranny slipping because of the power from the device. Its shows % of slip as well. If you ever have your trucks computer booted at the dealer it will screw that part of the Juice program up.

If you need more info sent me a PM or email coastaldav@bellsouth.net
