Tow/Haul, Trans temp light

Hi -

I am new to the forum, but have been running diesel trucks for too long on our farm. I traded my 2001 Dodge for a 2005 Dodge Cummins 24-Valve. It has 100,000 miles and no aftermarket parts (yet...). I have been getting what I hope is an errant sensor light for the last couple of months. The trans temp and tow/haul lights come on completely randomly. It can happen while driving, when the truck is started, when it is sitting in park, etc. It started this winter and as I live in Colorado, there wasn't even a possibility that the trans fluid was hot on start-up. I tried disconnecting the batteries for awhile to reset the computer, but that hasn't stopped the problem. I have also now pulled the tow/haul switch and I don't know yet if that has yielded any results, other than the light isn't on and hasn't come on in about five miles of test driving. Any ideas? Thanks for all your help in advance!

From what you stated that the lights come on randomly and even while sitting its something erratic in the electronic. I would take it and get the computer cleared and maybe new sensors.

Does anyone know where the trans temp sensor is located? Is it in the pan? Also, would the throttle position sensor have anything to do with this? That was an idea a fellow dodge driver threw out.

Also, I am trying to get a Chrysler service repair manual for this truck. Anyone have some ideas about where to go for that? Available online? I have done a little looking online and I haven't really found it yet.

I had one in the shop recently that had the tow/haul and trans temp lights come on intermittently. When this would happen, it would downshift to 3rd (if in 4th gear) and lock up the torque converter. The reason was that the PCM was seeing too high of trans fluid temp, but the fluid was not hot. The trans temp sensor had an intermittent problem. Changed the sensor and all was good. The sensor is in the pan and is not hard to change.
