Time for another new clutch... a few questions
my 06' is shiftin poorly, even with the clutch fully engaged the truck is still pulling.
Early on I did the south bend OFE solid mass flywheel kit so i just ordered the replacement clutch without a new flywheel or hydraulics.
Got a quote from a local AAMCO for $760 out the door which also included resurfacing the flywheel. somethin like 6.5 hours of labor
anyyyhow... got a call around 2 today and was informed the pilot bearing in the kit was for a dual mass flywheel...so apparantely south bend dropped the ball on this and put the wrong part in there.... easy $30 fix
then, got another call saying that my throw out bearing retainer was beat to hell and they highly recommended I replace it... gonna charge me another $300 for the stamped part .... what would cause this part to fail like this? I said OK to the job since I figured better safe than sorry...
but Im getting an odd feeling that they are trying to screw me over
truck has 350K miles on it... light hauling work mostly and this will be my 3rd clutch.... 1st 2 went in with no problems
any thoughts?

I am guessing that since your clutch wouldn't disengage, there was some type of hard-part failure, as opposed to simple wear. It sounds like your clutch fork that holds the release bearing that they are referring to, and that may indeed have been the part that caused the failure. If not, it's still quite possible that it was damaged somewhat by whatever came apart in there.
Keep in mind that the shop is kinda "caught in the middle" by installing parts that the customer purchased elsewhere and many shops won't do it at all because it just seems to create extra downtime and hard feelings when parts aren't right.
If the shop is close enough, maybe you can pop by to have a look at the damage while it's all still apart.

I'm very surprised at the 3 clutches in an '06, even at 350k miles. I have an early '04 and still on the original clutch. Regardless of the clutch quality or robustness, poor driving habits will kill them all. I fully expect 500k+ on the factory clutch. Maybe you should drive automatics.
