Is there any point in using the stock fuel filter?
I have a GDP 2 micron filter setup on the truck and was wondering if its really necessary to keep changing the stock 7 micron or could I just leave the canister empty and change only the 2 micron when servicing the truck.
Thanks, Tom
Thanks, Tom
Id just leave a filter in there, just in case, but really with it being after the 2 micron it shouldnt really get that dirty that often anyway, so you shouldnt really need to change it much at all...
If the truck is still under warranty, and using a better filter (and additional filter) doesn't jeapordize the warranty, I wouldn't leave that cannister empty. In case something did happen that is fuel related, they would likely hammer you because you did not have a fuel filter installed.
Did you install your 2-micron between the fuel tank and the factory canister OR between the factory canister and the CP3?
I installed mine between the factory canister and the CP3 per the instructions. That way the factory canister gets the water and particles to 7-microns and then the 2-micron get those from 7-microns down to 2-microns. The 2-micron filter will last longer if you get the bigger particles first.
I change my factory canister filter 2:1 2-micron.

I haven't used mine for years. I have a fuel/water separator before my Aeromotive pump and a 2 micron filter before the cp3 so it's pretty pointless. That and since I ran all -10an fittings and 3/4 inch fuel line those little banjo bolts are pretty restrictive.
The one I have is made by Glacier Diesel and puts a 2 micron spin on filter after the stock filter but before the CP3.
I currently have a Fleetguard 7 micron filter in the stock housing.
This is a better shot of the overall setup. I have a CAT filter on there now instead of the Fleetguard spin on.
right, the only real reason to keep the fuel bowl is for the fuel heating element in the factory fuel bowl. And the only reason to keep the filter in it is if you don't have a remote fuel/water sep. filter elsewhere. See, I made my whole setup with the mk-2 filter before the fuel bowl just so I'll practically never have to change that filter again. It's all in your setup really. And, unless you're trying to make all the power you can, why not just have an extra filter? Can't hurt right.
I have the GDP 2 micron installed after the factory 7mic and before the CP3. Yer right, cant hurt to keep it in the loop but was curious why i keep replacing a $15 filter all the time when I have a better one(and cheaper) 2mic down stream. I know, I know, you guys are guna give me the dont be cheap with a 50k truck sermon.....LOL.
How often you guys change your 2 micron? I have about
25k on mine. Still get plenty of flow and the pressure doesnt drop below 5psi.
