stupid question

stupid question

I bought my 03 2500 used, so it doesnt have all the paper work. how do I find out which tranny it has? i thought it was the 47 but I read somewhere that it could be the 48. now I am confused. any suggestions?

Look at the plastic valve cover and see what engine you have. If the sticker says 305hp/555tq you have the 48re.(which is the High output) If you have the SO you will have the 47re. Also if you have the 11.5 rear axle you will have the 48re.(HO= 11.5 axle)

If there isnt a sticker in the glove box, take the VIN to the dealer and they should be able to give you a build list as to what all it has.

You may have the 48RE. I have two 03's and they both have the 48RE tranny's in them. I believe it was the very early 03's that were either the SO (250HP) or the California edition (225HP) that still had the 47RE. I would either search this site or like hapidonnie said just call the dealer with the VIN#.
