another stupid question

so today I filled up for the first time. the DTE was 6 miles. the low fuel light was on. so i filled it up. The tank only took 26 gallons. isnt it supposed to be a 34 gallon tank? I cant imagine that the reserve tank is 8 gallons. any ideas?

In order to get it full with out standing there for fifteen minuites you need to do the fuel tank vent mod.

Here is a thread;

when you say stand there for 15 mintues, are you saying that when it clicks off, if I wait a few minutes, some of the fuel will fill into the reserve tank, then I can fill it up more? never heard of that before. shows how new I am to this.

Ian515, not a reserve tank but an area in the tank. The tank is the same as what is installed in the gasser so it has some air space in the top portions of the tank for expansion with gasoline. As we use diesel this area, if the tank is modified properly , will alow you to fill faster and to be able to get a few more gallons into the tank. The modification is a vent installed in the top of the tank allowing air to escape and more fuel to go in. Simple mod, quite reasonable and moderatly easy to install. Sorry I don't know the supplier but a search or someone else may post the link for the item.

As far as filling with the opriginal system my 04.5 showed between 1/4 and empty and only took 24-26 gallons to fill, my 07 at the same gauge reading takes 26-30 to fill so hopefully you will learn the truck and find out how far additionally you can go.

I have had mine REALLY low and mine stops at around 26 or so as well and then I take the 15 minutes filling up the other 10 or so gallons since I have the vent tank mod but still havent put it on

Sometimes when I am lucky it will stop and I will only have to add around 6-7 gallons but most of the time im sitting there putting in around 9-10 aditional gallons.

If you dont want to wait to FILL it up to the top once the pump stops give it a little bit to let some of the foam go down then you can add a few more gallons.

And the reserve or whatever anyone know REALLY how many gallons are left once the low fuel light comes on?
