Should you feel tranny downshift into 1st with shift kit?

As you all know I recently got a shift kit/torque upgrade to my truck. i got a triple disc goerend converter and shift kit and valve body upgrade. all is good and no more slip. but what i do notice more now is obviously more agressive shifting but i also notice i can feel the tranny downshifting into 1st gear when i approach a red light. is this normal? i couldnt feel tranny shift into 1st before ths overhaul.i

I've ridden in some cars that had built tranny's and yes you could feel them downshift.

so its perfectly normal to feel the tranny downshift into 1st when you slow down? kinda like a shutter when creeping to a hault.

you just did a shift kit, valve body and converter, you can't expect it to shift like stock. so yes this is normal

On my '05 after installing a shift kit the downshift to first was very noticeable, in fact a clunk. What cured it was reseting the transmission throttle valve actuator. Anytime the valve body is removed the TVA should be reset. This sets the zero position for the throttle valve. Just turn the key to the run position for one minute, do not press on accellerator. This gives the TVA time to reset.

Correct, as the shift kit also raises line pressures, thus the harsh forced shift into low

Those built trannys take a little getting used to. Mines a whole different animal now.

Sallyman, I noticed in some of your other post that you are using your tow haul with the new vb and tc upgrade. Is so you might want to check with Dave at Goerends on that because he recommended that I dont use it.

He has an 04.5. It dosen't have a tow/haul mode. Only the overdrive lock out which will lock up the TC in 3rd when pressed.

Sorry, I just seen in some of his other post he was calling it his Tow /Haul button. (The thread about vibration at 1800 rpms)
