My 05 is str piped behind the cat. Sounds good to me....but it does drone on occasion...the same a way a big turbine engine drones which to me is a good reassuring sound. To each their own.

i have to agree w/ most. i had about a 4' piece of 4" welded in place of my factory muffler and love it. a slight drone at about 2000 when accelerating, but quickly goes away. when in the cab at highway speeds, i can hardly tell a difference between factory and having it mia. plus it sounds great when you mash the motor and let it sing. hope it helps. btw i think i paid only like $55 or 65 for mine.

Nelson

Hey there, after using the search button on numerous occasions I put a 51" Nelson muffler on my 2004.5, and I am very pleased. I paid $65 dollars for the muffler and $25 dollars to be welded up professionally. It sounds like stock at idle just a little deeper. At highway speeds sounds totally stock. When you lay into it lets out a deep growl that turns heads..... the best of both worlds! I am not old I just have had all types of mufflers (Flowmaster, Borla...etc) and have come to the conclusion that I don't want the interior noise all time. Very cheap upgrade that you will be happy with..maybe alittle better fuel economy to boot. Do a search on the Muffler part number then find a local 18 wheeler parts dealer which you can usually find in most towns. Give them the part number and they probaly can order or even have them in stock. Later.

I have a straight piped 05 and love it. I don't really notice it unless I go down a road like main street here which is all 2 story buildings. On the freeway or above 35 I dont even here it with the windows down unless I stuff my foot in it. I hear the turbo and thats about it under normal driving.

Wow is it just me or are there lots of morons here.

First off $50 is a great price for driving into a muffler shop and driving out with straight pipe. I involves cutting, welding, 4 foot pice of 3.5 or 4".

Second he has a 03 so that means no cat

Third of course its going to be loud, Hello your removing the muffler. Its not going to be like a gasser but iys going to be loud when you get on it. I straight piped my 03 and yes its loud but its no bad.

I dont even care because I rarely have the windows up and no tunes. If your the type of person that drives with the window down then the sound will not bother you at all compared to 65mph blast of air rushing in on you.

At forst I thought it was too loud but I now like it because it set my truck apart. I also fell in love with the barking sound it makes at 2400rpm at WOT.

Do it and if you dont like it you can always throw a magnaflow under there for a few bucks.

It will sound good but be real loud. Not as bad as a straight piped or glass packed gasser. I would say it would be equivalent to a Harley with drag pipes.

I dont know about an 03 but my 05 is louder than any gasser I have heard (one the street). When it get up over about 2000 with any kind of load it cackles like a straight piped Z71 but way louder. Mine does it cause of the 6" tip, I have taken the tip off and the cackle goes away.

I think my cj7 with striaght headers on a 304 is prolly louder but I wouldnt say it is exaclty street leagal.

so Ya just now gettin back on to post up the results but saturday i did have it cut out and correct there was no cat on my 03 to cut off so its all straight pipe.

i was surprized i cant really tell its that much louder @ idle or about 65mph except a little drone when it goes into overdrive which leaves very quickly.

is it worth it??? hell ya drove it through some tunnels about half a mile long that same night and it sounds insane!!!
