Stock muffler or aftermarket muffler?

My dad went to a local shop here in Pleasanton. They said that you don't need any kinda aftermarket any thing on ur truck if you put a programmer on their the only time you need any aftermarket stuff is when you put a chip in ur truck i told my dad that, "that could not be right" what do yall think but i am pretty sure i know what yall think but he doesn't believe me. Please tell me am i stupid or are the people at the shop ignorant? Thanks!

There are NO Chips for a Cummins engine, Chips are a thing of the past and haven't been around for quite some time.

Supporting mods are always needed to show the full potential of a programmer, unless you are going moderate. Either way it goes, those guys at the muffler shop were dim-witted. I wouldn't let them touch my truck.

You definately need to get rid of the stock muffler and intake- they are huge restrictions- especially the muffler.

You can certainly run a programmer without any supporting mods, but if you want to get the most potential out of the programmer, then intakes and exhaust help... Surprising to me a muffler shop would be giving that kind of advice...

The stock exhaust system isn't that big of a restriction. On this forum an '04 with twins made over 700hp with the stock exhaust. Then they removed the stock muffler for a gain of only 10hp.

Hope you like your predator, most of the 03-04 crowd like theirs and 05-07 crowd aren't too fond of them. I'm telling you, if you don't wanna risk rough idling, excessive egts, and un-linear power, I would try something else first. I think you'd know what i'd pick for a programmer...just check my sig. I've had the predator on my truck and didn't like its rough nature. I actually liked the banks better because it was quite abit smoother. But to every man his own opinion.

a friend of mine that did design work on the basani exhausts for the cummins would agree w/mikey b. he stated that out of the big three manufacturers, the dodge stock exhaust had the least flow restriction.......
