My point was that there seems to be a lot of Variance in the DIPSTICKS of many newer trucks for some reason. Who knows why. I confirmed that ALL OF OUR engines take 12 quarts of oil to be full. If that meand 12 quars brings mine to the " Full Mark" or 12 qts brings yours to the " A" In Safe, or someone else's to the "E" in safe, etc.. then thats where full is for YOUR truck... Make a notch or mark on the stick for reference... I had to do this since adding my Ride Rite aribags... With 10 pounds it effects the dip stick level.... When i have 40 pounds in them, even more... LOLOLOL So I have several little marks on my dip stick.... one for 0 psi, 10, and loaded 40.//. Thats all I was saying... I didn't mean to come across so strong..

I just changed the oil and filled with 11qts only. I was also reading way over the full mark. I will post my results in 20 minutes when i check it.

I am right on the HASH marks with a 11qts oil change. I guess it is safe to say some of our motors are hiding a quart when we go to empty them.

This means my next oil change i should use 12 qts right??? I am thinking correct here??

Maybe someone should measure how much comes out!

I suppose it could be that some engines are retaining a qt when drained, but how? where would it be?

If 11 comes out 11 should go back in. Am I thinking correct here?

That's my feeling. But with the synthetic I just added, it will be quite a while before I can measure what I pull out....

FWIW,
My owners manual says run the engine until temp reaches 140. Then turn off engine and remove drain plug. Additionally, you should fill your oil filter with oil before installing it. (it holds 1 qt) after changing the oil run it for several minutes to reach operating temp then shut down for 15 minutes and check oil level.

You all have me curious about oil hiding in the system somewhere. My truck hasn't had its first oil change yet. I am going to take advantage of this and check my stick real close. I checked it once on a very slight incline and it read high. I need to get it on a level surface and recheck it. Not sure if they even put the oil in accurately at the factory. If they are using the metered pumps (I think they are) they could be off either way...

I wonder if the "hidden quart theory" could be the reason the oil gets so dark so quick???

WReed, almost everything I know about the CTD I learned here on this forum!
