Oil dipstick not accurate
My dipstick is not quite accurate as measurement.
I can top oil to max, and after 1000 miles it burns it down to 1/2 way safe area, where is stays forever.
I can drive 10,000 miles and it does not use any oil if I leave it at 1/2 safe level, if I top it to to max, I will burn it until down to 1/2 again.
I guess that's why they call it "safe" area, not Max and Min.

If you run too much oil, it can damage your engine just as much a running to little. Keep it in the safe zone and check it every so often. Cheap insurance compared with the cost of repairs.

Have similiar issue and use 12 qt fill up. Seems to use less or throw out less at low end of safe range. Probablly will go with 10 qt fill and check more frequentlly, just keeping in safe range.

I don't think you're burning it off if it's going from full to 1/2 on the dipstick. I think it's getting blow out of the crankcase without you knowing it. I fill mine to the top of the hash mark every oil change and after awhile it lowers itself to the middle every time and stays there... I consider this normal for my truck now...
Our trucks are like women... they all behave a little differently and have diverse personalities, but we love them anyway...

I said "burn it off' but it actually runs it through the vent, since I always have a nice light oil coating underneath.
I claim my truck frame will never rust...
