NV5600 clutchless shifting

Is the NV5600 designed to shift without the clutch by matching rpm's? Some trannies work well this way and some don't.

This trans is not built for cluchless shifting. The sincros are not built like a big rig. Sure some will say they do it, but it's not right.

Big truck trannys don't have synchros and ours do. Personally I would never float gears in a synchronized transmission and really it's not good to do it in big trucks either but lots of people do. My thinking on "floating" is the clutches are there for a reason so I don;t do it because transmissions cost a lot more to fix/replace than clutches do. Ultimately it's your truck so do whatever you want.

I have floated them before, most of the time I just use the clutch....but there are times I just don't feel like pushing the pedal in. I have a 4500 though.......
We need a real expert on these transmissions to tell us if we can or not, and if we can't what happens as a result?

when I had a 5600 I always used the clutch. the trannies are getting really hard to find and expensive so why not just use the clutch

Bruce, I tried it a couple times on your new truck. I can shift clutchless on other transmissions, but could never get it to work with that one. When you hear that 5600 grind once, you'll stop doing it in a hurry.

My brother has been floating his nv4500 for over 300K miles without a problem, it actually will save wear on your syncros ,
IF you know what your doing. Gears will slide in just nice if their going the same speed, but that's the trick. Syncros are for beginners , not real truckers. BTW, we tore down his tranny last year because the input bearing wasted, and the syncros looked sweet, we replaced the bearing, and it was back on the road. Do I shift mine without a clutch, heck no, I'm not that good at it, and besides my wife drives my truck and that probably gives it some grinding she doesn't tell me about anyway.

Same as stock clutches are for beginners.
You ought to drive around in stop and go traffic with a 4200lb plate load Feramic Dual disc and we'll see who the beginner is! LOL!

I hear ya, my knee gets sore with a stock clutch in traffic, I almost want an auto anymore.

10-4 on the clutches being there for a reason - for starting out AND shifting on a truck with synchros but on a non-synchro tranny it's as smooth as butter without the clutch ONCE you get your brain hooked up to your right foot and hand
