NV5600 shifting

NV5600 shifting
would there be any reason why shifting is difficult with my trans? like going into rev. or general shifting. is it because its cold? do i need it to be serviced?

From threads, from how mine shifts, and from how a friend of mine's shifts, I think that some of them just don't shift very easily. Redline MTL helped mine somewhat...

How many miles on the tranny? I've read where they say the nv5600 is a lifetime fill on the oil, but mine has always shifted much better following an oil change.

I have this problem too and asked this same question some time ago. Mine is very notchy. It has gotten better at 32K miles but not much better.
The answer then was to shift slower. That didn't really help.

I have noticed mine can act the same way. I only have about 12K on the truck. The only time it does this with me is when I try to shift a little too quickly. If I don't force the issue it shifts quite well. I have never had any problem with reverse though. This transmission shifts like a truck tranny, definately a different feel to it if your used to a car transmission. I have learned that I shouldn't try to drag race with it because it will only go into the next gear when it is good and ready. Try to force it and niether you or the transmission will be happy.

What you guys are describing is normal for the NV5600. If you have trouble getting it to go into reverse, try going to 1st and then into reverse. I don't know where I read this, but I read it a while back and it seems to work. These trans don't shift very good at all when they're cold.

Its easily a DIY job. Make sure you have 5 quarts of oil handy and a 17mm hex to remove the fill plug.
Drain the oil out of the lowest PTO plate bolt hole; and re-fill. It goes without saying to make sure you can remove the fill plug prior to draining any oil out of it.

As long as you are doing it, pick up some RTV sealant and pull the PTO cover plate off. That way you can reach into the bottom of the case to pull out the magnet and clean the metal mush off of it.
