Novice Needs help - intermittent stall and codes
Starts OK and drives OK for a time, then stalls like out of fuel. Sit for a minute then starts and stalls. Will idle and drive at very low RPM. Push it a little and it stalls.
Dash codes checked (on-off-on-off-on)
0191 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Performance
0483 Fan Speed
0628 Low Voltage Lift Pump Relay
185K on odometer. Original transfer pump.
Any help would be appreciated.

Check the charging system, if it is ok then look for corroded connections at the fuel pump relay and the wiring to the fuel pump. Then check fuel pressure.

How about the transfer pump? When I cycle the key on and off I only hear a few clicks, no pump noise. If the lift pump goes does it show a fault code. The CEL came on a few days ago and then went off after a day.

You need to bump the starter to make the lift pump run. That's why you need a fuel pressure gauge on it, to know that you know it's running. Then figure out the cause of what you find.

Just re-read and noticed you said 185K and factory lift pump. I can't believe yours has lasted this long, replace it. Replace it. I recommend the Raptor 100 from Glacier Diesel. I just finished installing one from them. Very complete kit and they are having free shipping this month. It'll run $389. I'd say this is 99.99% sure it's your problem. The other codes come I when engines die and the ecm is expecting signals from things not moving anymore.

Add this too, http://www.glacierdieselpower.com/pr...x?pf_id=4818ST
...and get a fuel pressure gauge of your choice.
With this, you'll be set with a lifetime warranty pump, and a gauge so you'll keep an eye on things. Proper fuel pressure on these trucks is very very important.

Thanks I will check out the Raptor. I read on TDR that a fuel guage was not needed on the 04.5. As you said I have read that the original pump lasting 185k it unusual. Thanks for the input and the links.

0628 low voltage fuel pump relay.
Insufficient voltage will cause poor or erratic lift pump performance causing a cascading effect. The other codes are secondary. While I agree the fuel pump may be shot, I would verify the other things first.

a FP gauge is needed. It's just there's no quick spot to screw in a sending unit. Gotta change a banjo bolt with one that has a threaded center for a place to put it.
