no treatment
ive got 57000 miles on my 04 and ive put 20000 of those miles on there ive never put any kind of fuel treatment or anything in it ive changed all filters but should i put some kinda treatment in the fuel tank and what does the treatment do
It helps lubricate and clean the fuel system. I use power service diesel clean with cetane boost. cetane is like octane in gas. The additves can make it run quieter, smoother and up your milage a touch.I noticed mine run smoother when I first started using it. Try doing a search on additves see what comes up.
look at the additives out there, depending on where you are and with the weather changing, powerservice and stadadyne seem to be popular. also so look at the blending of fuel at the service stations in your area, summer and winter blends. and on the last note EPA on fuel regulation, when there is a change in the contents of fuel ie: sulfur which had acted as a lubercant( cant spelllll) in high sulfur fuel, when it changed everybody burned up their injection pumps and it kept happening until the engine technology changed.

I've got two buddies with 03s one has 120k and the other 155k.They have had NOTHING but diesel fuel in them.I use some but wonder if its a waste of money or not.I asked THEM(friends)about additives and got the deer in the headlight look.In fact the 120k truck the first fuel filter at 15k looked good and the last few he went 30k before changing.Said they didn't look bad.Go figure. Both these trucks tow moderate(5k to 9k) 90% of the time mainly road miles not stop and go.
I have used power service grey bottle for the warm season but I switch to the white bottle for the evils of winter, white is labled for anti gel and 4 points cetane rating, the grey does not mention anti gel on the bottle but it offers 6 points cetane. With the few stations that actually list the rating of the pump fuel they all seem to be at a lousy 42 so I try to add for the raiting and the protection. I can hear a difference when I run out and add a tank without additives. Long term? you bet I will do all I can to make it last.
I emailed Cummins when I first bought my truck (1st diesel and had no clue). They recommended the NOTHING be used as diesel fuel already has the right "stuff" in it...just like gasoline has the right octane, detergents, etc....
I keep looking at the posts where folks have lost the lift pumps....it appears to me that there is no difference in the number of lift pumps that go bad whether or not some non-diesel additive is being used...just my opinion....
I have not used anything and don't plan to, but htere sure are a lot of folks that do....

I never used an additive until my wife asked, "What is that rattling noise that your truck is making?" "It never used to make that noise."
Well I followed my buddies advice (You guys) and bought my first bottle of Power Service (white bottle). 1st tankful was uneventful but the second tank along with a couple of full tilt runs down the track actually made my truck run much quieter!
I guess it must have worked because the wife is now pleased, and when Momma is happy everyone is happy!
