New gear?(Sarcastically Speaking)

I recently was coming up the backside(East) of Stevens Pass when the tranny shifted to a "New" gear. The truck has always sat at Approx. 1800rpm @ 60mph and out of the blue it dropped to 1500rpm and had massive power! I have not seen this since I have owned the truck(04 since new). I did get it to do it one more time on the freeway after stabbing the throttle to the floor and letting completely off, but can't get it to do it again. Any ideas???

I can't think of anything short of hallucinogenic pharmaceuticals that would cause the perception of a "new gear".

1800 RPM @ 70 MPH sounds about right....maybe the tach was reading low at the time?

Also, since you don't provide us with any details as to what mods, if any, you've made to the truck it's like shooting in the dark.

Fill out your signature and let us know what you've got.

Well as you can see on the posting I did add "Sarcastically Speaking"
Ok so the deal is, it cruises at 1800rpm approx. @60 and when pedal is applied is rev's up quickly without a lot of acceleration and when it dropped down (or up) to that "new" gear the rpms drop to 1500 and it has hella acceleration and minimal rpm jump. Just weird that it did it for the first time after four+ years of use...

So how easy is it to tweek the converter, or should the dealer look at it? I'm trying to avoid the dealer and learn to "deal" with it myself...

I could be wrong, but I'm thinking that 2100 at 70 is a little bit high. That would indicate the TC was not locked, and you're getting some slippage. Any idea what your trans temp is?

What happens when you push the OD Off button?

The TC clutch is actuated by a solenoid on the valve body, and is controlled by the PCM. One of things that should cause it to lock is cruising down hill (no load). Sounds like that process is not working correctly.

Have you checked for codes?

Well I talked to my Mech. At Dodge and he says that "that" gear should only kick in when pulling a load. Under normal freeway use it won't. Sounds strange to me. I liked that Massive boost of power at the low "grunt" RPM!!!
As for turning off the O/D, it(RPM's) jumps up bigtime...

Ok, so recently I have added Cetane boost and Stanadyne fuel additive to try and hush my rattling injectors(it seems to be working) and the wierd thing is, is that the trans is starting to drop into that "new gear" I was mentioning.
Normanlly it cruises at 1800rpm@70mph and when accelerating the rpms jump up and then the turbo spools and then the speed increases, BUT, more and more after accelerating to freeway speed the trans shifts up and after so, the RPM's drop to 1500 and when you step on the gas the RPM's don't just "jump up" like before, the turbo spools and the MPH increase dramatically with very minimal RPM gain, like 80MPH@roughly 19-2000RPM. Also the "clatter" seems to minimalize when it's like this. ANY CLUE'S?????
